Even in his discomfort I imagine Zelensky must appreciate the irony.
What President Zelensky has been the target of from Trump is of course how countless national leaders of the "strongman" variety, in Zelensky's region of the world and many others, have long behaved: With unapologetic, don't-you-dare-question-me corruption. Regimes in which every state action supports the top priorities of maintaining the strongman's personal power and increasing his personal, usually hidden, wealth.
I'm sure there have to be moments when Zelensky, having been a political satirist, appreciates the irony of his situation. Being a fairly-elected and so far honest Ukrainian president during a moment in history when it is the American president who is transparently, abjectly corrupt, even to the point of trying to extort foreign leaders into helping him crush his political opponents. How a power-drunk, megalomanical demagogue now rules the United States and is putting the brutish squeeze of a ham-fisted mobster onto the leader of an eastern European nation.
Elections* do indeed have consequences... what an understatement that's been this time.
* at least when conducted amid voter suppression, epidemic, unprecedentedly well-targeted disinformation, heavy intervention from a hostile foreign power, domestic dirty tricks, and under a monstrously undemocratic "electoral college system"
