Slate: "A Former ICE Chief Melts Down" - absolutely incredible, appalling, and expected.
https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2019/09/thomas-homan-ice-meltdown-pramila-jayapal.html
Thomas Homan, the Trump administration’s acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement from January 2017 to June 2018, helped to transform the agency into an arm of Donald Trump’s nativist agenda. During his 17 months, ICE escalated its terror tactics against immigrant communities, tormented thousands of individuals in ICE custody, and lied to federal courts. On Thursday, asked to answer for his agency’s conduct and policies in a congressional hearing, he responded with a meltdown that perfectly captured a lawless organization’s rejection of any rules or authority that might limit its power.
The most indelible moment arrived when Homan’s time expired—and he refused to stop speaking. Jayapal attempted to gavel him down, but he continued to insult her. His rant ended with a moment of rage as he lectured Jayapal: “I’m a taxpayer, you work for me!”
Former @ICEgov Dir. Tom Homan shows no respect to @RepJayapal during a House hearing today after going over his time, shouting out, “I'm a taxpayer, you work for me!” pic.twitter.com/kVK2VlWinG — Andrew Kimmel (@andrewkimmel) September 26, 2019 This was not his first blowup at the prospect of having to answer to criticism. Earlier this month, Homan engaged in a similar performance, attempting to shout down Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez after his time expired. Like Jayapal, Ocasio-Cortez had to gavel him down.

14. I hope that works out just as well for him as it did for those in the Nuremberg trails.
As well, you could almost (almost) sympathize with lower lever soldiers obeying orders as they were trained to do, under the pressure of the chain of command, but if we are looking at comparisons to that Nazi administration, he'd be a Himmler, Hess or Goring. Officers that were true believers, who relished their roles in mass torture and murder.

2. I hope she retorted, I'm a member of congress and we are BOTH working for the CITIZENS
Citizen is a higher calling than taxpayer, damn it.
As a matter of fact, plenty of people targeted by ICE are taxpayers, not citizens. |

5. That was my thought too. If you take an oath of office, you are agreeing that your personal beliefs
are less than your willingness to uphold the laws of that office.
But even the distinction between taxpayer and someone within our territories is too restrictive. Citizens, Residents, Aliens, Taxpayers - these can be used as divisive terms when needed. Sometimes as in this current situation, the chain of command needs to be personally examined rather than blindly followed. Thank you for your response. I certainly hope other office-holders in the US government as well as other jurisdictions will realize their duties. |

7. This guy and others like him have lost any inkling of what it is to act civilized ... as a matter...
of fact, I find that lots of repugs act this way...no one else but them and only them deserve any respectful behavior. This is why we need to take the gloves off, dust off the book of insults, arm ourselves with the word of law via the Constitution and its supporting Amendments and go after these law breakers and contempt of Congress idiots. The Senators conducting the House hearings deserve at least a minimum décor of respect (at least for the office they hold). Homan clearly shows that he doesn't give a crap about the rule of law nor follow any normal human dignity.
Steve Miller must be giving out classes. |

15. It has totally
It has totally spun out of control.................worse yet, it is getting worse by the hour and day.............
Soon, if it hasn't happened already, it will be irreversible........... I can't even imagine, if we were able to stop all this shit in it's tracks and begin to undo the huge amount of damage that has been done................it would take decades to get us back to even where we were three years ago..Much more if we tried to undo the past 19 years of fraud, corruption and deceit that has been dumped on the U.S. citizens, our government and even the rest of the world. I see no signs of it even slowing down. The COUP is either complete, or nearly complete........... Thank you everyone, who listened to a few candidates commercials in the weeks before the election, voted on the lies and then went back to burying their heads in the sand until the last minute before the next election. As James Carville said on election night in 2016, the U.S. voters are about to learn big time that their voting has consequences... WASF, |

Back in high school we would have an asshole like this, and one of us would take the nasty guy out back of school and beat the shit out him. Too bad we can't do the same thing, (but without violence,) to this group of nasty mean Republicans......

5+ years ago I would see their screens up in airports, bars, hospitals(!). Now I don't have to put up with their self-serving blather.

We paid HIS salary. So he should STFU with the theatrics and answer the questions.
