will have to try to gain the nomination, which I am not at all assured would happen. R's would want an unscathed candidate. But, even if he did get the nod, he'd be very much weakened in the election.

So, whether or not he gets impeached as well, Pence may be sailing a sinking ship as far as his future ambitions.

They will never get rid of them both at the same time! I think Mitch would croak if we ended up with President Pelosi - which isn't entirely a bad thing....

But if either one of them is impeached, the other one will be damaged goods. I'd rather get rid of The Orange One first and deal with Pence later. They would have to choose someone to be the new VP who could be confirmed by BOTH houses of Congress. (cough, cough, Paul Ryan, cough, cough).

But think about this scenario which has an upside and downsides.
The Republicans realize that both Pence and Trump are dragging them all down.
They are both forced to resign, Pence first. like Agnew. The Dems agree to
a moderate Republican who promises not to run in 2020 who is appointed
by Trump who agrees to resign if he and his children are pardoned.

This opens the 2020 race wide open for Romney or Rubio etc. And they would
have a much better chance to hold the Presidency and the Senate.

that he would bargain like hell to reduce or eliminate charges. The state charges
could be negated as well to get him out of office and the state charges will be
challenged in courts possibly favorable to Trump.

if the Republicans in Senate panic due to falling polls and pull their support. They will have two
choices: force Trump to resign by sweetening the pot with promises of pardons or tell him he will
be voted out of office. He will choose resignation.

And what if he or she breaks that promise because "the country needs me"? It's not an impeachable offense. If they tried to impeach (let's say) President Romney for just that, the country would tire of it and call it a witch hunt.

who had would have shown any interest in running. It would definitely not
be Romney. It would be someone more like Colin Power.

The Republicans would never accept Pelosi, either.
It would split the country far worse than it is split now.

And a person who breaks their word on such an important promise would
hardly have much of a chance to win an election at such a critical time.

The only thing preventing Trump from being prosecuted for his raft of crimes is the fact that he's a SITTING President. If he's no longer sitting, off to jail he goes. And he knows it. That's why he'll NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER voluntarily step down. For ANY reason.
