(71,555 posts)employment with GM...very demoralizing to work next to people making so much more than you...and they want to to turn the entire workforce into temp workers.

(3,871 posts)It is not uncommon for 2 Union hires doing the same job to have hourly rates with a 40% differential. Unions agreed that future hires would be paid less and have no defined pensions or Retiree medical insurance. These changes were agreed to in exchange for keeping the jobs in the US in most cases. At the company I work for most of those Senior hires have retired so the difference in wages and benefits are not so prominent.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
