I didn't find the Steve Allen Show in 1956 - would you settle for Dragnet?

...Dragnet works too, but I tend to think of that as a 60s show because its later seasons were in color, and that's what I remember from syndicated reruns.

Still, I think I had originally meant to type The Jack Benny Show since it, not Allen's show, was in the top 10 ratings for the 56-57 season, but the wrong name got stuck in my head.

It's wrong. There were dirty tricks then, too. Remember dealing with Iran to postpone the release of the hostages?

Also, Nixon and his mouthpiece Kissinger dealt with the North Vietnamese to not accept peace terms from Johnson.

So, I reckon the last time dirty tricks weren't invovled in a Republican presidential win was when Eisenhower was elected.
