Washington Post-Schar poll on an impeachment inquiry into Trump:
OCTOBER
58% support it
38% oppose it
JULY
37% support it
59% oppose it
**A 42 point turnaround in three months. Forty-two.**
WaPo-Schar poll on House impeachment inquiry:
Dems get a +5 net approval on handling of the issue; Republicans get -23 point net disapproval
Americans say...
53-42% the House is acting to uphold constitutional duties
61-35% its a necessary stand
41-55% its NOT overreacting

This makes no sense. If its a "necessary stand" then how can it be overreacting?

(6,159 posts)ie, the question is probably something like "Do you think impeachment is an overreaction to the Presidents activities"
But the reporter pulled out the takeaway as "not overreacting"

(916 posts)It's probably asking too much to get the raw numbers too.
Still, considering how much weight (albeit transitory) an individual poll carries, it's absurd that the public has no chance to review the underlying data. I'd be inclined to discount *all* responses from people who said both impeachment is a necessary stand and impeachment is overreacting. That is, "yes" to [impeachment is a necessary stand], and "no" to [its NOT overreacting], though I doubt the survey questions were actually constructed like that. If they were constructed like that, I'd discount the whole survey as bad science.

(17,580 posts)That's the question, so 55% say No and 41% say Yes. That's in line with the other responses.

(862 posts)The numbers are kind of baffling, even with that clarification. But I'm encouraged by b and c.

(3,363 posts)other things from happening. The House has passed over 200 bills. The only reason nothing is happening is because of Moscow Mitch and Republicans.
But most voters can't seem to figure that out.

(30,613 posts)Very unlikely, but better than the zero chance of progress without impeachment.

(6,108 posts)I remember civics classes in school...do they even teach that any more? How about Schoolhouse Rock? Anyone remember that? I used to love watching those "cartoons"...a fun and accessible way to learn about government, science, math, grammar, etc.

(17,580 posts)a pretty good majority disapprove. The mafia-like demand from Ukraine was easy for everyone to understand. That got people to pay attention. Now the other stuff like Barr globe-trotting to "prove" Trump's conspiracy theory, the abandonment of the Kurds, the obstruction of everything, it's all building to a crescendo.

(79,250 posts)One of the most important polls I've seen recently shows that republicans under the age of 35 are becoming increasingly open to the idea of impeaching and removing Trump.

(9,116 posts)The GOP isn't answerable to "Americans". They do not, have not, and will continue to not give a flying fuck in a force ten gale what "Americans" think about anything. They care about their base.
And what does their base think?

(14,307 posts)His corruption is in plain sight and his tough-guy schtick is getting old. Trumpers are only hanging on because he is racist, but as they lose their shirts and realize their country isn't being made great again they are losing their enthusiasm for him.
He still has Russia, though.
