2. I don't think he intended it as a distraction; I think he did it

because the impeachment inquiry is something he can't control and it's driving him nuts (ok, that's not a drive, just a short putt) - but taking US support away from the Kurds is something he can control. He's showing the world how important and powerful he is (in his own mind, anyhow) by unilaterally making a crucial decision that affects not only the Kurds but the balance of power in the area. It won't work as a distraction from the impeachment process for long because that will be ongoing for weeks or months. It might even make him more impeachable in the long run.

His stupidest moves come when he's anxious and paralyzed. And I don't believe that much thought goes into it. But this is something he's wanted to do for a long time but was talked out of. He has a list of dangerous and stupid things he wants to do, but he doesn't do them until he's overcome by anxiety.

Still, it would be important to know if this was a favor to someone, and if so was it to Erdogan or Putin? EDIT: And what was it in exchange for?

I believe the Joint Chiefs are totally against moving our troops out of northern Syria, along with everybody else who has half a brain. However Chump is ignoring all else except Pootie.
