William Barr: Our Less Christian Society Is To Blame For Mental Illness And Drug Abuse
Judeo-Christian moral standards are like Gods instruction manual for ... the best operation for human society, said the attorney general.

Attorney General William Barr on Friday faulted the ascendancy of secularism in America for mental illness, violence and drug abuse.
Virtually every moral pathology has gained ground, he said in a speech at the University of Notre Dames law school. (See the video above beginning at 21:48.)

(5,122 posts)Not because I am non religious, Its such a stupid argument. I work with mental health and substance abuse clients, this asshole has the nerve to link the decline of religion to these serious health conditions. How can we have any meaningful policy on these matters given what these idiots think?

(63,221 posts)Do they really believe what they are saying or is this all about being politically expedient? I can't figure it out.
If they really believe this stuff, then they obviously aren't very intelligent. If they are just saying it to be manipulative, then it's a sad commentary on the intelligence of the republican voter (in both situations), and a cynical view on our political system that politicians use religion to exploit voters in that way.
Either way, it tells us that U.S. republicans are the stupidest, most gullible idiots on the planet.

At this point in his position as Attorney General to Trump, he probably is spending a lot of time on his knees (for one purpose or another) but that doesn't make him a Christian. What he really needs is a lawyer to cover his ass.
Hey, Billy Boy, by lying and cheating day after day for the biggest liar in the U.S., you are about as far from being a Christian as Trump. You sold your soul as soon as you took office. Don't ask for our forgiveness...you need to start a conversation to the Big Guy, and that ain't Trump.

After we scrape away the pustulating sack of shit that's covering the Republican party at the moment, we're going to find the same exact Christofascist, homophobic, racist bigots I've known my entire life. And they'll still be screaming about THEIR freedom. Fuck them all.

But the small Main Street shop ordered 4.8 million oxycodone and hydrocodone pills to dispense from 2006 to 2012, according to data recently obtained by The Washington Post.
Thats the fourth highest number of pills delivered to more than 1,000 pharmacies statewide. Its the only rural one in the top 10, a list dominated by pharmacies on the urban Wasatch Front and in southern Utahs booming St. George.
Carbon County, Emery Countys neighbor, follows close behind, with stores in Price ranked 11th and 12th. The countys 11 pharmacies together received over 15 million oxycodone and hydrocodone pills from 2006 to 2012 enough for each resident to receive 105 pills per year.

(3,750 posts)what he wants folks to believe. The Law of Christ is to love your neighbor as you love yourself. We are even supposed to take care of our enemies if they need it. Love fulfills the law of God.
So, as those proclaiming Christianity have put down the communistic teaching of the first century Christians and picked up the worship of wealth (Mammon) things have gone downhill.
These folks are deluded and the spew of Barr and his ilk are helping to create a humanitarian crisis never before seen on the scale we will experience. Eat the rich, I say. If we don't they are sure as hell gonna eat us. They are already drinking our milkshake.

(22,077 posts)our Country, and this pompous ass decides to grace his presence and thoughts on this topic. He might as well pointed fingers at the entirety of rural America (massive drug problem (meth mostly))...I was so worried about my former neighbors and Mom who lived in a very rural area of MO...and they had a couple of former (and perhaps still) drug addicts in the local area.
Help is so far away in case something happened. Fortunately not much happened but the point is that not a lot of help is available for folks who are addicted to these nasty drugs ... a true shame. Health insurance is next to nothing in this area of MO too (unless you were a retiree w/ benefits).
What is Barr advocating? That all of these addicts go to church and such to cure themselves?

On a related note, every time someone says schools today are more violent than in the past, I recommend reading the first chapter of Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
