Erdogan steamrolled Trump in that phone call. Wow.

(6,277 posts)Erdogan is a religious zealot, and he couldn't wait to kill the PPK doing terror attacks in Turkey.

(18,690 posts)His Secretary of Defense just justified what's happening by saying, "Everyone knew Turkey was serious and this was inevitable." Trump is already on record talking about how he wanted to protect the Kurds. And Mattis and Dunford lectured him on this too.

only 100 military personnel were moved out of Northern Syria,
I can not fathom how they could have stopped the 2nd biggest military in Europe.
My guess is Erdogan made it clear he was going to
invade Northern Syria to kill all those terrorists responsible for terror attacks in Turkey.
Trump could have easily said to Erdogan, "no you aren't, end of discussion." Erdogan was not going to attack US forces, period, he needed Trump to stand down, there was never a threat that the US would have to fight Turkey.
And the Kurds in Syria are not responsible for the terrorist attacks in Turkey, that's a different group that is in Turkey.

(6,277 posts)I do not know details of who is doing terror attacks in Turkey, but Erdogan is going to be much more popular in Turkey if he can stop those attacks.

(24,433 posts)Erdogan needed Trumps permission to do it. And he got it. Attacking our troops would be an act of war and the Us would destroy Turkeys army. 100 US troops were embedded with the Kurds, they effectively shielded the Kurds from any Turkish invasion.
And Erdogan is interested in ethnic cleansing and the he intends to illegally eject all Kurds from Turkey into Syria. Hes a monster.

(6,277 posts)As a matter of fact I oppose starting any war unless the country has attacked us first without provocation.
So long as Turkey has not attacked us, I am against starting another war. I think we had more than enough foreign wars. DO not wish to see any more bodies returned in coffins.

It is only partially true. There is too much, easily forgotten, information that indicates that you can't deflect this by claiming ineptitude, etc. I am concerned about the narrative that misses some key points. The motives are key.
