Trump claimed during his Dallas rally that he outsmarted Democrats by releasing the Ukraine phone call that got him impeached.

Trump said, “See, we did one thing. You always have to do the unexpected. They never thought I’d release the conversation with the Ukranian president.”

It is the conversation transcript that Trump released that launched the impeachment investigation. If Trump would not have released the conversation, Democrats might not have the ironclad that they needed to impeach him.

Trump’s massive mistake in releasing the rough call notes is why impeachment moved forward so quickly. The president handed the case for impeachment to Democrats on a silver platter. He gifted impeachment to the House, yet, Donald Trump thinks that he outsmarted Democrats by getting himself impeached.

Trump is completely unhinged, and he thinks that he is winning even though he is set to become the third president in US history to be impeached.

If Trump is not impreached/convicted or forced to resign, we will have taken a big step toward the republic being autocratic. And it will be driven by the minority, by the big states with few people, because we haven't bothered to update our constitution.

This process will be a big tell from Republicans. Will they step up and draw the line or will they turn their backs?

Countries don't have true existential moments very often. We have had the civil war and world war II as our big moments. I think this could be our third one. This one is really about how we want to govern as we go forward.

A good section of the country would give up many of their civil liberties. They don't particularly care for women's rights, reproductive rights, gay rights, workers rights or even free speech. They would throw those to the curb as long as they can force their religion on everyone else and own assault weapons.

So we will see what happens.

He failed in the editing because he left in the thing he thinks is legal, pressuring a foreign government to provide dirt on a political opponent. He's too stupid. ignorant and arrogantly self-entitled to have bothered to read the constitution and disregards the advice of his lawyers. He violated the constitution and needs to be removed from office, hve his properties taken for tax and insurance fraud and he should be jailed- that would be justice!

It drives me crazy when people (including Rachel Maddow) say this.
