...we may have already lost our democracy and our Constitution?
One thing has become clear over the last three years. The Republican Party is not capable or willing to defend our Constitution. They are surrender monkeys.
Where would our nation be today if we did not have the Democrats in charge of the House? How far would this lawless and reckless autocrat have gone?
A Party that is incapable of defending our Constitution has no legitimacy to exist. They are a threat to our nation's survival.
They have shown who they are and what they stand for.
The Republican Party is a disgrace.

(9,895 posts)The Republican VOTER is a disgrace. They should be ashamed of themselves and they should be embarrassed to ever speak publicly of their hideous beliefs...
Pompous, hypocritical, racist surrender monkeys indeed.

(14,561 posts)They have devolved to the point where they excuse any and EVERY thing because "he is pissing the left off!" and they will vote for him because "it pisses the left off."
WTF the media and country at large continues to bend over backwards to indulge them is my major frustration.
40% of this country is just fucking lost. This country has to recognize, accept that and act accordingly.

(15,366 posts)But any Democrat who was eligible to and did NOT vote in 2016, or who voted for a third party candidate then, is also a disgrace.
Thank heavens that so many came out and voted for Dems in 2018!!! Those Dems redeemed themselves.

(17,862 posts)It needs to be the Senate. Unless you can convince four or five of the smaller states that their best interest lies in the Democratic party, our country is doomed.

(7,220 posts)also impeachment is toothless without conviction, which can only be done in the Senate. Bill Clinton was impeached in the house, and still remained a very effective POTUS.
Also the house has passed a ton of bills that the senate simply ignores. We need the Senate, and we probably need a stronger leader than Schumer when that happens.

(81,197 posts)We need to leave a mark.
For the history books.
So his name will ALWAYS have that asterisk next to it. Nothing he can say or tweet or spin will get rid of that mark - although I strongly suspect that after hes impeached, assuming the Senate doesnt produce enough votes to convict, trump will try various sneaky-ass maneuvers and schemes to have his friends scrub the record or somehow retract or nullify an impeachment.
And if things REALLY get to hot, I still expect him to try to sneak out of town some dark night. And maybe go hide in the Crimea or some such Russian safety zone.

(14,887 posts)At least here in Orange County, I have never seen Democrats work so hard or been so motivated. dana rohrabacher was elected to Congress when I moved here. I had despaired of him ever being defeated. But we got rid of him in 2018. Every congressional rethuglican was replaced by a Democrat. It was grassroots' success too. New life is being enjoyed by the DPOC. Last year, our Dem club reserved one table for the annual Truman Dinner. This year it was 3 1/2 tables!
I mean this feels GOOD!

(2,594 posts)They are violators of the Constitution and the rule of law. They gleefully abuse their power to line their pockets and those of their children and rich friends. As long as they can scrape a dollar from every natural resource that provides monetary reward or bilk the taxpayers for whatever boondoggle they can conceive, they'll enable this (indeed any) festering spawn of hell for as long they believe it's politically safe. They are all corrupt. It's just matter of degree between them.

(6,583 posts)Granted, Trump & the GOP would be completely ignoring every bit of it with the exception of the 2nd Amendment, but it would still be there.
And when Democrats take control again we will take our government back to being one that respects, honors, & obeys that Constitution.

(1,849 posts)Found an article I read 8 years ago titled "The-enemies-within-the-20-most-dangerous-conservatives-and-their-organizations". Interesting, it's from a Christian left blog! I posted the link below.
In 2011 they listed 20, and mention Roger Ailes (he's dead) and fox first, Rupert Murdoch and his assorted news organizations ninth, the Koch brothers (one's dead) second, Dick Armey and the tea party third. Pat Robertson is sixth. Edwin Feulner, Jr. of heritage foundation is seventh.
I didn't see the Mercer's on this list, or Rush limbug, or Franklin Graham (Billy was still alive when this list was made), or Cambridge analytica founded in 2013, or the Federalist society which is funded by some of these folks. They all exert influence on conservative politicians and gullible voters.
This is the closing paragraph:
"And there you have it. All of these people and their organizations pose a serious threat to the American people. They target women, senior citizens, minorities, homosexuals, non-Christians, and American workers. So which person or organization is the most dangerous to democracy? The common thread throughout the list is the Koch brothers. They have ties to many of the people and organizations on the list and share many of the same goals. If one were to remove the Koch brothers from the equation an important source of funding and leadership would be eliminated from the conservative sphere. The Koch brothers are by far the biggest threat to American values and institutions. The truly evil thing about this group is that NONE of them are elected by the people. Yet they have more power and influence over our elected officials and system of law and government, than we do."

We must be mindful of these people and groups as well. They represent an axis of evil with far reaching tentacles, that we are trying to repel and defeat.

(6,994 posts)Here is what I expected if the Democrats had lost the House:
The Republicans would have said that our form of Government is outdated and we need to overhaul our system
Its like we have two systems of Government. The Fascist Government of the White House and Senate and the Democratic Democracy of the House of Representatives.
But the Republicans still have the Right Wing Media

(5,377 posts)BUT I think it goes much deeper than that.
It's obvious to some Trump has been subverting or rorting the system. As have other, previous presidents, but Trump is in a league of his own. A Mafia Don would be proud of him, getting away with it for three years - or his whole life, depending on your view.
But it begs the bigger question:
Can we put this entirely on one political party? (Granted the ratbags in politics seem to naturally gravitate to the biggest feeding troughs, like a herd of feral, hungry swine.)
Are there no people with serious power in either camp that can get some real time consideration of bad behaviour from leaders, and tap them on their shoulders, and say, George T style, 'Oh My! You should NOT be thinking of doing that!'
As is, the reaction to Don's casual attitude is years too late. The damage has been done.
For one, get rid of the 'Executive Orders' power thing, it seems to over-ride normal processes and makes a mockery of them. Same for 'presidential pardons'.
A President is a public servant, not a King, after all. He should NOT have the power of deciding who lives or dies, or get away with criminal behaviour.
In short, curtail the power of the POTUS position, and increase oversight within the party in power.
And for crying out loud, lock down the validity of the next election! Paper ballots only!
And a full media black out of political info one week before the next election. TV, Radio, Social Media. A blanket ban.
To give those with aching brain cells some time to clear their heads.
