A sign of hope? I just saw a monarch butterfly.

I am in West Central Maryland. Haven’t seen one of these in a couple of years. I’m going to take it as a sign of hope and good things to come.

because I and many of my neighbors have been growing milkweed. I was really glad to see so many of them this year and would like to think it's a good omen.

central Ohio's expecting a high of 50 with rain and an evening hard frost on Halloween per Weatherbug. Weather tends to travel east over those Appalachians, so it better hurry on its southern journey!

We saw an 86% decline of California’s Monarch population in 2018 from the previous year, and this is on top of a 97% decline in the total population since the 1980’s.

I grew up with a Monarch grove a mile away from my childhood home and have fond memories visiting them, but they disappeared decades ago. I truly hope I'm wrong, but I really, really believe it's the end of the road for the majestic Monarch migration California.

SE Indiana. I've been documenting when I see the last one of the year.
Saw a good amount this Summer... lots of milkweed around and I actually planted some milkweed seeds on the farm this year to help them out.
It may seem odd, but I always wish them safe travels when I see them in the fall.

In fact, I took this shot of one while out walking my dog just about the time you made the OP

And earlier in the week this one was posing for me also while out walking Snowy

The last few years I've been able to come to the beach here in October and I've seen Monarchs migrating every year. It's really a lovely sight to sit on the deck and watch them flying by.

There is some great information--and maps--of their migration patterns here: https://www.fs.fed.us/wildflowers/pollinators/Monarch_Butterfly/migration/index.shtml
