After a brief break from howling gusts, residents and firefighters in Northern California's Sonoma County braced for more ferocious "Diablo winds" Saturday, prompting new evacuations of at least 90,000 people near the roaring Kincade Fire.
The Sonoma County Sheriffs Office called the evacuations the biggest in the county in more than a quarter-century.
We need our community members to take these warnings seriously ... it's time to drop things, pack and go, said Healdsburg Mayor David Hagele, one of two towns on the evacuation list.
At a news conference, Windsor Mayor Dominic Foppoli called the rapid approach of wildfires a life-threatening situation and a danger to our entire town.
The 900 residents of Geyserville cleared out on Friday.
To the south, the Tick Fire, which broke out around Santa Clarita near Los Angeles, has already scorched 7 square miles and was 55% contained.

(21,155 posts)My neighbor has scaffolding up and it was on the verge of collapsing. We kept hearing planks falling during the night and this am it was leaning and the fire department is out there trying to right it now.
We are in SF.

(3,191 posts)My daughter and I have loaded our cars, no evac for us yet but the winds were so scary. Live news conference on now. My friends in Windsor and Healdsburg evacuated yesterday. It was just 2 years ago that Coffey Park and Fountaingrove burned to the ground. This is so hard to go through again.

(3,191 posts)My poor dog knows what is going on, she NEVER cries, but she did in October 2017 when we evacuated, and she was bawling again from 1am-5am this morning. My neighbor is a vet and she just brought me something to help her relax. Henrietta is passed out now. I'm a mess. Thank God we still have power.

I have a bunch of friends and other family that have evacuated to family outside town.
Hopefully you will be ok. My daughter just went into her job to collect some files she is worried about.
I lived there for 25 years we moved to WA and Oregon when we retired.
A lot of people I know have a bit of PTSD and some are really freaked out.
I just heard from fire guy in my southern Oregon area they are sending a bunch of fire teams to help out.

(3,191 posts)I live about 4 blocks away, really close to the SRPD on Sonoma Ave. We have power and we are so fortunate, but I am freaked out. If the fire jumps 101 we are so screwed.

The ferocious winds arrived as predicted in Northern California, fanning the flames of the Kincade Fire in Sonoma County and leaving well more than 2 million residents without electricity in PG&s territory and causing blackouts in Sacramento, too.
The blackout has affected more than 2 million people and is expected to last up to 48 hours.

(58,785 posts)or her other one up in the Sierras in Placer County -- with one road in and out of the area. She's very independent, and since no one's been able to reach her by phone, she's probably in the mountains. But could be with friends somewhere else without service. Typical that no one knows. No fire warnings in her area at least, just power interruptions.
