Did they think they were some hardcore special ops unit?
Besides the madness of such an action where everyone gets to join in in the fun because of a ticket violation, is it common to (reportedly) point your weapon into a crowded, narrow area full of civilians? In other words, when is the limit reached when the police decides that you are too much of a dumbass to run around with a gun?

Then they could have struggled with him until deadly force was needed...

It's not suppose to be fair. They used overwhelming force to subdue him and no one was hurt. Did they know he wasn't armed? How could they know that before hand?

$1.50? I have no idea. Let the guy ride, for Jebus's sake.

Here in the Twin Cities of MN, the general rule on the Metro system is: "In case of a dispute, provide the ride!" Why escalate something so minor as an unpaid fare? It makes no sense at all.
