Associated PressOctober 27, 2019, 3:39 PM EDT
WASHINGTON (AP) President Donald Trump falsely boasted that he predicted Osama bin Laden's 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center and inaccurately asserted he had always opposed the war in Iraq in a news conference Sunday that often fell short on facts.
A look at some of the president's claims at the briefing, where he announced the death of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State group:
TRUMP: "I'm writing a book ... About a year before the World Trade Center came down, the book came out. I was talking about Osama bin Laden. I said, 'You have to kill him. You have to take him out.' Nobody listened to me." Trump added that people said to him, "'You predicted that Osama Bin Laden had to be killed, before he knocked down the World Trade Center.' It's true."
THE FACTS: It's not true.
His 2000 book, "The America We Deserve," makes a passing mention of bin Laden but did no more than point to the al-Qaida leader as one of many threats to U.S. security. Nor does he say in the book that bin Laden should have be killed.
As part of his criticism of what he considered Bill Clinton's haphazard approach to U.S. security as president, Trump wrote: "One day we're told that a shadowy figure with no fixed address named Osama bin Laden is public enemy Number One, and U.S. jetfighters lay waste to his camp in Afghanistan. He escapes back under some rock, and a few news cycles later it's on to a new enemy and new crisis."

(36,804 posts)Donald also said he and hundreds(?) of his employees went down to help search and clean up.
No one seems to verify that claim.
Why don't the employees speak up?

(42,770 posts)we need to FOCUS on only the top 10. Trump's MO is to throw so many at us we can't keep up. And we can't.
Hell, maybe people are speaking up, like you ask...but they are drown out? Info overload!
I do think this 9-11 lie you mention is actually in my top 5!

(6,831 posts)Non-disclosure agreements. trumpie has always been big on silencing his employees.
Remember he also said that he saw "thousands of Muslims" in New Jersey applauding the fall of the Twin Towers.
Just more BS from a man who has no passing familiarity with the facts.

(19,201 posts)Has Trump ever fallen long on facts? The Moron-in-Chief holds every modern day record for lying! In fact, the only time Trump isn't lying is when he's filling his jowls full of hamberders or chicken. Pointing out that Trump is lying is like pointing out that fish live in water.

(5,395 posts)Trump lives in one.
Any past events are malleable facts, that he can alter with a few words. The new 'Trump_facts' supersede those previous facts.
Rewriting history is a skill worthy of any Dictator.
An essential skill if you are a know-nothing who wants to be a hero know-it-all and a Sayer of Wisdoms.
But 'Lock Him Up!' is an appropriate and measured response.
EDIT: Reality and Trump's thinking: When were they last in close contact, and where did it all go wrong? One for the experts to consider!

(25,979 posts)I had to double check to see if this was from the Onion. He might get away with claiming just about anything at a rally, but this was a news conference?! Oh, I think his cheese is sliding all the way off the cracker. After tonight's boo fest, somebody better take his phone away and cook up a reason for a few days of rest. He is losing it for real now.

(42,770 posts)Laughing our asses off. Oh and he thanked Russia for letting us fly over their country to get there. They have come out and said Huh? Maybe he was referring to northern Syria as Russia now.

(25,979 posts)Photos and tweets are bad enough. I managed to get through Alec Baldwin's cold open of last week's SNL for the first time since the election. I find him that unpleasant.
eta: reading about Putin throwing him under the bus was kinda delicious. If only he could embarrass himself without taking the rest of us along for the ride.
Oh, wait- off to watch more World Series clips! Hee!
