(25,216 posts)of military support from the GOP to Dems. Not Pollyanna hopeful, just very very cautiously hopeful. The active military I interact with as a defense contractor are unusually open these days. I'm used to them avoiding any political talk whatsoever. They are furious with Trump.

(1,339 posts)As a veteran and life long democrat it annoys me to be put in a stereotype of ignorance of military people. Most of the military could care less about politics the main body is 18-28 or so, and most do not follow politics and a lot don't bother to vote either. Most of my vet friends hate cadet bone spurs.

The best way to combat a stereotype of ignorance might be not to spread it. :p
If most vets hate him, they should do their patriotic duty and show up this time.

(1,339 posts)age demographic vote? Are they not responsible for the wars or do they get a free pass because they have no skin in the game? Get young people to vote period.
My vet friends do vote but we are not 18-28 thinking about getting laid and going out.

We do it, too, to be fair. Were attacking Trumps greatest strength, his perfidy.

(1,035 posts)in the 80s and 90s, progressives have had to deal with the myth about war protesters spitting on Vietnam Vets. Republicans will live to regret treating the military establishment types so shabbily.
My cousin, who is the same age as me, is a retired Lt Colonel. I know he voted for the GOP in 2016 because he had more faith (even after Iraq) about how the military was treated by a GOP president. After Syria, he called me to tell me he would never vote for another Republican in his life.

(26,848 posts)2015. This piece of shit party spawned this fucking monster that is now making some of them shit their pants. Bet none of these motherfuckers said much when that gay soldier was booed during that circus of a debate. And wasn't that asshat Rick Wilson connected to the smears against Max Cleland? And no I don't miss George Goddamn W Bush either. Nor his asshole daddy.

(3,913 posts)proclaim yourself the party that supports the military... until it is no longer politically expediently for you to do so. Then go on the attack against military vets.
The silence from them surrounding trump's McCain "shot down" blather was deafening.

(15,879 posts)With his daddy's connections and didn't even bother to finish his obligation, whereas Kerry volunteered for the most dangerous job in the Navy and was wounded, serving honorably.
And yet, Kerry's Vietnam era service was turned into a political liability whereas GW's received very little media attention.
Rethugs have been playing by a different set of rules for a long time.
