Devin Nunes calling the Intelligence Committees fact-finding mission a cult is dispicable. I know about cults. Cults are led by maniacal narcissists who expect complete adoration and relinquishment of independent thought. I suggest Mr. Nunes look elsewhere.

Speier entered politics by serving as a congressional staffer for Congressman Leo Ryan. Speier was part of his November 1978 fact-finding mission organized to investigate allegations of human-rights abuses by Jim Jones and his Peoples Temple followers, almost all of whom were American citizens who had moved to Jonestown, Guyana, with Jones in 1977 and 1978. Speier was one of two members of the mission who made wills before traveling to Jonestown.
Several Peoples Temple members ambushed the investigative team and others boarding the plane to leave Jonestown on November 18. Five people died, including Congressman Ryan. While trying to shield herself from rifle and shotgun fire behind small airplane wheels with other team members, Speier was shot five times and waited 22 hours before help arrived. That same day, over 900 remaining members of the Peoples Temple died in Jonestown and Georgetown in a mass murder-suicide.

(20,713 posts)whenever he heard anything that pertained to the Orange Cult Leader? Nunes is as despicable as they come. The Democrats have been much more fair to Tangerine Idi Amin than the republicans were with President Clinton. Democrats actually follow the rules, which is much more than can be said for rat republicans.

(9,426 posts)All in lockstep behind a president who does not know truth from lies. He has been breaking laws for his entire life, so why would he change now? This is fine with the gop. They are fighting a losing battle. The TRUTH will be exposed. Bill Clinton did not commit a crime. He DID disappoint many voters, however. The gop has much, much lower standards for their own "leader". Any country in the world would welcome presidents Clinton, Carter and Obama. tRump? NO THANKS. The Russian ass et is a joke worldwide, and the gop is proudly backing him up. Anyone who votes these clowns into office again is as dumb as they are.

(20,713 posts)when people who've never voted in their lives decide to vote for a nationalist, racist, xenophobic liar, just because he's as ignorant as them. This is what happens when fairness and truth in the media has no place, and vicious propaganda is allowed to be aired 24/7 without any filter whatsoever.
Republicans have already forgotten about the Mueller report, which in itself holds enough impeachable offenses for any other president. Republicans have chosen party over country, and it's not even their party! It's the party of Trump now, because the republican party has ceased to exist.
If this is what our country has been reduced to, The United States of America ceases to exist. Fascism has arrived, and it's wrapped in orange skin, has some sort of sick animal wrapped around the top of it's head, is morbidly obese, and is as dumb as a rock.

https://culteducation.com/warningsigns.html
Ten warning signs of a potentially unsafe group/leader.
1. Absolute authoritarianism without meaningful accountability.
2. No tolerance for questions or critical inquiry.
3. No meaningful financial disclosure regarding budget, expenses such as an independently audited financial statement.
4. Unreasonable fear about the outside world, such as impending catastrophe, evil conspiracies and persecutions.
5. There is no legitimate reason to leave, former followers are always wrong in leaving, negative or even evil.
6. Former members often relate the same stories of abuse and reflect a similar pattern of grievances.
7. There are records, books, news articles, or television programs that document the abuses of the group/leader.
8. Followers feel they can never be "good enough".
9. The group/leader is always right.
10. The group/leader is the exclusive means of knowing "truth" or receiving validation, no other process of discovery is really acceptable or credible.
Ten warning signs regarding people involved in/with a potentially unsafe group/leader.
1. Extreme obsessiveness regarding the group/leader resulting in the exclusion of almost every practical consideration.
2. Individual identity, the group, the leader and/or God as distinct and separate categories of existence become increasingly blurred. Instead, in the follower's mind these identities become substantially and increasingly fused--as that person's involvement with the group/leader continues and deepens.
3. Whenever the group/leader is criticized or questioned it is characterized as "persecution".
4. Uncharacteristically stilted and seemingly programmed conversation and mannerisms, cloning of the group/leader in personal behavior.
5. Dependency upon the group/leader for problem solving, solutions, and definitions without meaningful reflective thought. A seeming inability to think independently or analyze situations without group/leader involvement.
6. Hyperactivity centered on the group/leader agenda, which seems to supersede any personal goals or individual interests.
7. A dramatic loss of spontaneity and sense of humor.
8. Increasing isolation from family and old friends unless they demonstrate an interest in the group/leader.
9. Anything the group/leader does can be justified no matter how harsh or harmful.
10. Former followers are at best-considered negative or worse evil and under bad influences. They can not be trusted and personal contact is avoided.

(29,824 posts)One of the banner images touts "Madonna's Kabbalah Center".
When you click on the link, it routes you to a YouTube video about the Berg Kabbalah Center.
Madonna was once involved with the Center, but separated from them after they took her money and did not use it as they had promised (to build a school in Africa - not a Kabbalah school, a regular school).
Madonna, understandably, became disenchanted with Kabbalah in general and the Berg's in particular.
It's very deceptive and downright unfair to have a banner headline that reads "Madonna's Kabbalah Center" when it was never Madonna's, and the relationship that once existed has now dissolved.
The organization decrying deceptive practices is engaging in deceptive practices.
Not a good look.
Thanks for enlightening me!

I was just really disappointed to see that smear of Madonna, and it makes me question the rest of their content, unfortunately.
