Positive Vibrations

"Oh, the mood in the White House is frightful
but the Democrats in the House are delightful!
Impeachment is on its way,
Let it flow! Let it flow! Let it flow!”

Nothing can possibly make this holiday season more delightful than the House of Representatives delivering articles of impeachment. Of course, there will be some sullen republicans declaring war on our holiday festivities, but that can only make it even more entertaining. They cannot destroy the holiday spirit of impeachment, try as they might.

The republicans in the Senate will recognize that they are caught between a large rock and a tiny hard-on in the White House in 2020. Republican House members will be less restrained by reality. Many of them believed that Trump would serve two full terms. Matt Gaetz dreams of singing praises to Trump on his final day, even hoping that a brief visit by Speaker Pelosi and Chuck Schumer in the Oval Office might convince Trump to serve a third term. The below film clip is taken straight from Gaetz's fantasy:

However, considering today's House vote, I think there will be other tunes being sung across the nation. Here are a couple of examples:

There is reason to celebrate this day. It marks the beginning of our Impeachment holiday. No place on the internet that I'd rather be! Yet, just as our democratic representatives in DC have a lot of hard work ahead of them, so do we. Nothing can be taken for granted, for as Spinoza said, “all noble things are as difficult as they are rare.”

We have two closely related struggles to engage in: the impeachment and conviction of Donald Trump, and the 2020 elections. Both require that we resolve to create a united front. This doesn't mean that there will be complete agreement on candidates in potential primaries for House and Senate seats, nor quite obviously for our presidential nominee. It would be foolish to think that was a realistic goal.

We can, however, recognize how uniquely important the 2020 elections are. Each of us has to determine for ourselves how far we are willing to go to insure victories. The best option is to focus on promoting the candidates you favor, to express why you back them. The worst is to attack another candidate from our party, for as history has shown, in doing so, you insult those who support that particular person. We need unity of purpose now, not divisions rooted in personality.

One last point on how important 2020 is – if a republican, be it Trump or Pence, wins in 2020, there is absolutely no chance that the DoJ will prosecute the numerous criminals in and around this administration. If we win, we can create jobs by opening a large new federal prison to house them in.

Okay, now that that's settled, let's go destroy the Trump administration.

If the House does an exemplary job on the public phase of impeachment, conviction in the Senate *might* actually be possible.

Right now, I think there is a 50-50 chance that if the Senate hears the case in early 2020, there will be a conviction.

and I'll use that line.

A month or so ago, I started writing a book, semi-para-quasi-fictional, pretending I'm a retired boxer that Trump knew from his bit with Don King, who Trump hired for protection. The boxer accompanies Trump to DC, and keeps a diary. Alas, then word of Anonymous' book coming out, and wirnesses documenting Trump's crimes are happening daily. Yet I continue.

Hearing this report, I immediately e-mailed an associate, and asked him if he had tabbed me with a hit of the infamous Woodstock brown acid?

with the top aide of a member of the House on impeachment hearings tactics. I'm suggesting that Democrats call Laurence Tribe, author of "To End a Presidency: The Power of Impeachment" (2018). As the nation's leading expert on constitutional law, he should testify not only about the Constitution, but what the Founding Fathers discussed in the Federalist Papers.

“A major reason for including the #IMPEACHMENT power in the Constitution was the need to oust any president who owes his office or wealth to a potentially hostile foreign state — without waiting for the next election. The Convention debates & Federalist Papers make that very clear”

I always like to think of the great Smokin' Joe Frazier, after the first round of his first bout with Jerry Quarry. Both men landed bombs, though Jerry landed more, winning the round. On his way back to his corner, Joe grinned -- entirely to himself! --and hit himself in the head several times. He loved an intense fight, because he knew that no one at that time could keep the pace he could set. We need to be in touch with our inner Smokin' Joe.

I wonder how many of them won’t survive. I expect the landscape of our government is going to look very different sooner than we expect. I don’t see how FOX can doctor public testimony, though they will be Oscar-worthy.

I hope they scream and throw tantrums a lot. It’ll garner attention.

I think the republicans attempt to play to their base will backfire. Those infected with rabies will still support them, but the hearings are going to catch the attention of a heck of a lot of young people. And motivate them to vote in 2020.

Surely the republicans in the Senate will try to take a different tactic than those in the House. It will become increasingly difficult to deny that Trump violated his oath of office, etc, and that it doesn't rise to the level of high crimes and misdemeanors that justify conviction.

It's like classic music. Plus it tells a truth, as you noted. And a truth holds over time. (He is liking his job a lot more this year. I pointed out that if a kid has ten problems, and you help him/her with four, that's success. More, it provides the foundation for him/her to resolve the other six over time.)

I do hope the Democrats can get behind a candidate this time, as Mr Trump being re-elected would rather nullify all the joy of the upcoming season.

I wait with interest to discover how many in the GOP will calculate that it is in their interest to appear to suddenly show integrity and devotion to country and vote to throw the bum out. At some point, one would think, at least a few would be disagreeing with Mitch McConnell's math.
