Once we abandon truth there is nothing left of democracy...
Progressive and liberals across the West need a better strategy in a post-truth world. How do we fight against the right-wing disinformation machine of populism, demagoguery, lies and disinformation? They are not going to change the way they cheat and lie, and between Brexit, UK GE and the 2020 US election, they are going to use all the weapons in their armoury to ensure they can consolidate their hold on power, by any means necessary.
Conservatives are well known for putting power before democracy. The ‘ends justify the means’ take on life is destructive, and the right wing has pushed this envelope to breaking point over the last 3 or 4 years. It is difficult to see how they can make their way back to an ethical and just place of governance from where they currently sit.
We cannot follow them down that rabbit hole of nasty to try and punch back. There would be no way out of that moral morass. I was originally going to title this OP 'How low should we go?' But by the time I finished writing it I knew the answer. We cannot go low at all. Once we abandon truth there is nothing left of democracy. Pointing out their viciousness nasty racist mendacity though… we can certainly do that. A lot. On top of that we need more and better… ideas anyone?
