Despite the constitutional origins of impeachment, Rep. Louie Gohmert believes it will trigger "communism" in America.
Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) claimed this week that the impeachment inquiry currently underway in the House of Representatives would lead to a civil war and a dictatorship in the United States if Donald Trump were removed from office.
Gohmert made his comments Thursday night while guest-hosting the radio program "Breitbart News Tonight," which is part of the controversial conservative Breitbart News.
Earlier in the day Gohmert said in Congress that the inquiry was "push[ing] this country to a civil war."
He expanded on that take during Thursday night's radio show.

(82,849 posts)Since this will, as you say, trigger communism in America, why do you suppose the folks who wrote the Constitution gave the House the power of impeachment in Article I? Were they ignorant of the dangers of communism? Or were they trying to trigger communism by other means back in 1789? What's your thinking on this?
NOTE that in using the word "thinking" in relation to Rep. Gohmert, I'm being about as facetious as I can be without actually levitating. I'd really like to set Gohmert off, complaining about the founding fathers being seduced by communism nearly 80 years before Marx wrote Das Kapital. The First District of Texas must be incredibly proud of their dumbass of a representative.

(23,937 posts)i see post after post in response to these OPs saying stuff like "oh yeah? our mighty US army will totally wreck your paramilitary goon squads." there have been several reports of mass-media civil war prep this week, and i expect many more of them in the coming months. the population isn't quite there yet, there's still a fair bit of propaganda work left to do. but -- and this is important -- the work is getting done. Tangeranus may have utterly failed to build a physical wall on the southern border, but he's been quite effective in building a spiritual wall between people of different political views. it's almost finished now.
fighting with the government is not the point, and it never was. they do not plan on fighting the US army any more than Timothy McVeigh did. they intend to murder liberals where we live, work, and vote. when Kristallnacht 2 (electric boogaloo?) happens, it will begin and end quickly, well before governors can deploy the national guard to quell violence. expect police to look the other way, when they aren't actively participating in the purge.
