‘It’s like nothing we have come across before’: UK intelligence officials shaken by Trump administration’s requests for help with counter-impeachment inquiry

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-impeachment-inquiry-latest-russia-mueller-ukraine-zelensky-a9181641.html

*snip*

The attorney general is focusing on the theory, aired on far-right conspiracy sites, and raised by Trump and Giuliani, that Ukraine framed Vladimir Putin over the US election in a complex triple-cross operation by impersonating Russian hackers.

Trump and Barr have also been asking other foreign governments for help in investigating the FBI, CIA and Mueller investigators. The US president has called on the Australian prime minister Scott Morrison for assistance, while the attorney general has been on similar missions to the UK and Italy.

And the information being requested has left allies astonished. One British official with knowledge of Barr’s wish list presented to London commented that “it is like nothing we have come across before, they are basically asking, in quite robust terms, for help in doing a hatchet job on their own intelligence services”.

I did a search of the forum before posting this. The last paragraph really should be blasted far and wide in this country.

The MPs more or less told him to go to hell.

I have wondered why that illegal solicitation for help from a foreign country in a US election did not receive more attention.

He can feed it to criminals in the UK, Australia and Italy to shape their lies and subterfuge. Then present it as if it's some kind of fact.

Mueller was a F*cking idiot to have not brought charges. Now he's being attacked by the very same criminal he left off the hook. Mueller and Comey are Trumpy Dumpy and shorty Putin's first victims.

Unlike Trump he is smart and canny. We already know from his writings and speeches he does not trust liberal democracy. Rather a government guided by his idea of a Christofacist ideology.

He is going to try and pull something before the election. Rudy has Muddied the way for him since he was so ham fisted in his attempts and it is all coming out. And from Australia, Italy, Britain and who knows is next he is being spurned.

But that won’t stop him. He is an old man who believes he is on a mission from god.

I have no doubt he personally despise trump. But he sees this as the last chance to kill liberal democracy and put the country back in the hands of white Christians.

I hope I’m well enough known on DU to not be considered conspiracy freak. Hell, until trump admitted trying to bribe Ukraine I was against impeachment. I’m pretty moderate for DU. I own guns and hunt.

But Barr scares the shit out of me. He has no qualms about violating norms because he considers our current norms an insult to god.

I could give a shit if we ever put trump in prison. Barr truly deserves it. He hates what this country has become.

Trump does not have the stones to round up his enemies. He’s proven that. Barr does.

The morning after his inauguration. He stood before the wall of nameless memorials, with his cheering section in the first five rows. Because he knew that the Intel people have the goods on him.

I'd doubt any foreign intel service, excepting of course the KGB, is going to cooperate with this.

Dump would already be toast without barr in place.

I don't care how much embarrassing trawling for bullshit barr does, he will never be able to overcome all that was wrong with tRump's performance at the Helsinki summit. He wants to cover for the pro putin actions that tRump has engaged in as candidate and president, as if they're reasonable offshoots of good foreign policy.

Good grief, tRump the candidate hid his Moscow tower deal. The candidate's son, etc. met with foreign factions to help his campaign. The pResident couldn't defend his dealings, so he went after and blocked the investigators. The pResident usurped Congress's power of the purse to withhold aid from Ukraine to benefit his political ambitions.

The pResident's 'foreign policy' is so enmeshed in his personal gain, that barr can manufacture evidence ex post facto all he wants, but he won't change my mind about the nature of the administration. I believe he's doing all of this to try his case for the pResident in the court of public opinion. How to thwart his efforts is the question I’ll carry around with me until I vote this Tuesday.

There will be no code of law left standing when they are done. THEY will say what the law is, and what it isn't. Totally subjective and totally about power. They probably consider it their privilege. Dictators always do.
