(40,933 posts)1. Lots of great quotes from this articulate, thoughtful ballplayer
Heres but one:
Doolittle deleted Twitter from his iPhone until the Nationals won the World Series. But now that he has the app back and his decision is out there, he already has seen people telling him to respect the office of the president. He views that as the default answer from those who believe athletes should attend White House ceremonies no matter what. And he has a succinct response.
People say you should go because its about respecting the office of the president, Doolittle said. And I think over the course of his time in office hes done a lot of things that maybe dont respect the office.

(59,875 posts)3. Good for him. To the "respect the office" crowd, I'd just reply:
"I DO respect the office of the president. It is precisely due to my respect for the presidency that I will not go to the White House while there is someone there who is defiling it."
I haven't been back for the Christmas parties there, either, since Trump started defiling the office.
(Full disclosure: Since Trump took office, I haven't been invited back, either!
