Gordon Sondland, the US ambassador to the European Union and a key witness in the ongoing impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, spent over $1 million in taxpayer funds on personal home renovations to his residences in both Washington, DC, and Brussels, government contracting records show.
The pricey renovations, first reported by the Washington Post, include:
$400,000 for renovations to the kitchen and $53,000 for renovations to the bathroom in his home in Brussels.
$95,000 for the installation of an "outdoor living pod/pergola" at his home in DC.
$13,000 for a "split heat system Jacuzzi/swimming pool" in Brussels.
$33,000 for Italian handmade furniture, described to be "driven by Sondland's lavish tastes rather than practical needs."
$100,000 for Sondland and his family to temporarily relocate to another residence while renovations took place.

So in his mind only right he should get that money back from the taxpayers. That's how rich donors think.

(8,838 posts)10. How do you spend $400,000. on a kitchen?
And $53,000 on a bathroom?
Not to mention all those other expenses.
You really got to work at it to be that vain.
We need to get that money back, or at least seize the property and sell it at auction to recoup the expenditure.

For $400,000 you could have purchased a small restaurant, a chef, and a wait staff.
