(4,291 posts)Saw it posted elsewhere here, and that prompted me to dig out the I, Claudius DVD set I bought decades ago.
Episodes 8-10 are especially relevant to our current situation, IMHO.
RIP, John Hurt.

(21,430 posts)in the meantime I'll give my support to the people and organizations that uphold everything decent that Don the don trashes. There are thousands of people working in big and little ways, publicly and quietly, to uphold human rights and dignity and American institutions and values. They do it in politics, in legal pushback through the courts, in charity organizations, as volunteers and in professional capacities.
There is something for everyone who wants to do something.
Isn't that what Obama was suggesting in his recent comments about activIsm? For those too young to remember, that's what JFK asked of "we the people" - to be more than armchair citizens in whatever way we can.

And visit the Democratic Primaries forum where you can choose your Candidate.

Be prepared for a great deal of passion regarding candidates. The competition can get so fierce and intense that the DU moderators created a distinct forum just for Presidential elections.

Be sure to wear armor!
110 years ago, it was the religious Christians who were pushing the Progressive agenda. They were the ones who backed labor laws, opposed child labor, and so on. They even pushed for women's suffrage. They were the ones who built the YMCA, to encourage people to improve their health. The only issue I disagree with was their support of temperance (prohibition).
So, being a Christian does not necessarily mean being a right-wing fanatic.
