California conservatives leaving the state for 'redder pastures'

The Volkswagen SUV whizzed past the Texas state line, a U-Haul trailer in tow, as it made its way toward Amarillo.

“Yay!” Judy Stark cried out to her husband, Richard, as they officially left California. The pair bobbed their heads to ’50s music playing on the radio.

Like many other Republican and conservative voters in California, the retired couple have decided to leave the state. A major reason, Stark and her spouse say, is their disenchantment with deep-blue California’s liberal political culture.

Despite spending most of their lives in the Golden State, they were fed up with high taxes, lukewarm support for local law enforcement, and policies they believe have thrown open the doors to illegal immigration.

Good riddance, I say.

And won't they be surprised if Texas turns blue this next election cycle.

Cost of living much lower in Texas than California. Way better for retirees. But then it's big, flat dusty Texas.

if they want to live in a town with good schools, they're going to pay higher property taxes than in California. of course, no state income tax makes up for that in Texas, but I live in another high cost state (Connecticut) and did an analysis several years back and it would not have been nearly as much savings as my wife was expecting if we did move to a suburban Houston location... and I'm sure property values have gone up more percentage wise than in CT since that time.

And, in California, it's usually a dry heat. In texas, it can get really humid.

Isn't it odd how conservatives can cut and run and nobody calls them cowards or snooty or elitist. But dismissing Nazis like Richard Spencer or Sebastian Gorka out-of-hand earns you a stern tut-tutting from the media for not being sufficiently open-minded about other points of view.

I was moving to Las Vegas.

During the whole trip from NC to NV, the cats meowed constantly. Until we crossed the TX border. The smell of cows and their shit were so strong that they stayed quiet until we got to New Mexico.

Damn! Even this human had to hold her shirt over her face to try to reduce that odor.

Have fun in redder pastures! Look before you step. Make sure you are stocked up on Lysol spray.

that paragraph made it sound like it does. Also someone might want to break the news that Texas is getting bluer by the minute with Arizona closely behind. Presumptively they drove through Arizona to get to Texas? Perhaps they should try Alabama? All due respect to Alabama Dems.

they are in for a nasty (and well-deserved) shock. I grew up in a much whiter Lone Star State. A lot of where you’d expect is browning is browning, but so are places like Lubbock, Abilene—AND EAST TEXAS!!! For those who don’t know, East Texas is the most culturally “southern” part of the state.

Maybe they should join Moscow Mitch in Kentucky?
