Buffalo Wild Wings fires workers allegedly involved in racist incident

A social media post about an allegedly racially charged incident at a Buffalo Wild Wings in Naperville went viral on Facebook and ultimately led to the firing of the employees involved. "I usually don't post these types of things but we think people need to be aware of the situation," Mary Vahl posted.

She was part of a group of 12 children and six adults who went to Buffalo Wild Wings in Naperville on Saturday after the children's basketball game.

In the post, Vahl claims a Buffalo Wild Wings employee told her husband, Justin, that two diners — a man and woman who they were told regularly frequent the restaurant — didn't want to sit next to the group of 18 'because he's "racist."' The group of 18 was multiracial.

The employee seated the group at two tables not far the couple. Shortly after, Mary claims another Buffalo Wild Wings employee approached the adults in the party to say a seating mistake had been made and their tables were reserved for another group. The group left soon after.

Were the fired employees in cahoots with a racist patron?

I am no stranger to this kind of low life behavior in the service industry.

I was once on an American Airlines flight from New York to Zürich when a passenger raced up from the back and screamed that he was seated next to a woman, and that his "beliefs" forbade it. He demanded that the airline remove the woman next to him or find him another seat. Instead of kicking the loudmouthed passenger off the plane (like the rest of us were hoping) and calling the police, the crew accommodated the loudmouthed passenger and found him a seat that was not next to a woman. I would have fired (or at least reprimanded) the crew for doing it, but it wasn't up to me, and that airline isn't one of my favorites anyway. They had no business letting a loudmouthed, bigoted religious nut dictate airline seating policy.

Another time, I was at a hotel (the Bellvue Palace, in case anyone is going there) in Bern, Switzerland. My family and I had just come from hiking in the mountains, and were clothed accordingly when we checked in.

In addition, there was a big demonstration against nuclear power going on in the streets, so we had no plans to leave the hotel. Instead, we went with our two small daughters to the hotel's outdoor café to get them some ice cream. I used to stay there often, and so suspected nothing. A young waiter came to take our order, but then got no farther than the outside door, where the head waitress (we later found out) ordered that we should not be served. Not knowing that I was a regular at the hotel, she mistook us for demonstrators, and hadn't noticed that my room key was sitting on the table.

After half an hour, and our young daughters in tears, my wife guessed what was going on, and raced to the front desk to vent her anger. The front desk, who knew me, said surely that couldn't be the case, but my wife turned out to be right. The management forced the head waitress to bring us our order to our room, and on the house. The hotel not only apologized profusely, but included an account of the incident in their training manual so that it would never happen again. They did not waive the room fee, of course. They are, after all, still Swiss.

Nevertheless, I'll bet THAT didn't happen with American Airlines or the wings chain in Illinois.

That guy has a few distinctive body features, I am sure anyone looking at him from behind that know him can help identify him.
