As Bevin Refuses to Concede, Critics Warn Kentucky GOP 'Totally Gearing Up to Steal' Election (sic)

"Pay attention. They're going to try to steal the Kentucky election right out in the open, in front of everyone."

Kentucky's Senate President Robert Stivers suggested Tuesday night that the close race between Gov. Matt Bevin and Democratic challenger Andy Beshear could ultimately be decided by the state's Republican-controlled legislature, sparking warnings that the GOP could attempt to "steal" the election.

"There's less than one-half of 1 percent, as I understand, separating the governor and [Beshear]," Stivers, a Republican, told reporters after Beshear declared victory. "We will follow the letter of the law and what various processes determine."

Stivers pointed to Section 90 of the Kentucky state Constitution, which says: "Contested elections for Governor and Lieutenant Governor shall be determined by both Houses of the General Assembly, according to such regulations as may be established by law."

According to the New York Times, Beshear is leading Bevin by more than 5,000 votes with 100 percent of the precincts reporting. Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, a Democrat, called the race for Beshear Tuesday night.

Stivers' comments were met with alarm on Twitter. The Intercept's Ryan Grim warned that Republicans are "totally gearing up to steal the KY governor's election."

If Bevin contests the election, the State legislature can convene and vote to hand the election to Bevin instead of Beshear. It's a stupid 120 year old law.

It would be quite easy for them to steal this.

yes, they do need evidence. If we get to the point you suggest, the Republic has fallen and insurrection is in order. As bad as things are, we ain't even close to that yet.

i believe we are closer than many imagine..

truth is, 'we' really have very little idea what is really going in behind the scenes...

I mean--this is the moment the right wing fuckers have been working towards since.. of 1970s? Earlier actually..

The speed of the take-over has been accelerating...

In fact, the man the legislature handed the Governership to, who received fewer votes, was shot and died three days after taking office.

No courts or evidence required, just a sinister lack of integrity.

Federal law, as in federal election laws. Override any conflicting state laws.
There would have to be court-acknowledged irregularities to trigger the legislative overview.

"Whatever process that the governor chooses to go down, it's not going to change this overall number of votes," Beshear said at a press conference. "We are going to take the steps to move forward to make sure that we are ready... on the day that we're inaugurated."

Until some ROV from Hicksville shows up with a sack of votes saying
"I found these in my office and forgot to count them. There are 5090 votes for Bevin."
For the win!

I still think he'll refuse to leave when he's defeated. Or at least try to stay by refusing to concede, citing "voter fraud." We'll be looking at a real Constitutional crisis and we'd better be prepared to fight (legally) like hell.
