He of course got his numbers wrong.
Warren plans doesnt make him pay this much.
Also, how can one of the richest human beings on earth,
complain that he is paying too much.

(1,713 posts)at some point he may feel it's to much. After all, he earned it. Given what he pays, I'm fine and he can use his money to fund billions in projects around the world and in America helping poor, sick and research on climate change. His foundation is probably more efficient than govt anyway. I'm a big fan of Bill because I have seen first hand his work so maybe I'm a bit partial.

(4,448 posts)Created an industry that now employees millions. (including yours truly)
Windows code today DOES have some of his original code in it.
You are using his product RIGHT now to share your opinion with millions. (this is true even if you are on a MAC, as I am, or a phone)
This isn't a guy who inherited billions. Nonetheless, his full time job is now giving away billions to the poor.
Yes. He earned it.
But that's just our opinion. The world has voted and elected to give this to him. And they didn't ask you or I.

(4,448 posts)But if what gates did was so easy. Whats stopping everyone else?
But yea. He did start pretty damn young and small. He was writing code for large companies as a Freshman in High School.

(33,345 posts)Gates sought bottlenecks and twisted everything he had to in order to gain control of those bottlenecks.
He's as dirty as Trump, he's just smarter.
He didn't create an industry. He jumped into one already there and used dirty tricks and political pull to force it to give him a cut.
Hell, even his failed Traf-o-data was built using stolen time on a university computer. DOS was an unauthorized clone of CP/M -- bought by Gates after he made a deal with IBM, claiming he already had a disk operating system ready to license. Windows 95 was the bug-ridden code MS kept after failing to produce OS2 in the partnership with IBM. (IBM had to rewrite the whole thing to produce a working OS2 Warp).
If you work for Microsoft, you should know more about its history. Unless, of course, you're just marketing.

If McDonald's prevented their competitors from enterting the market, we would be up in arms.

(4,448 posts)and frankly I think their products lack soul.
But yes you are right. I used hyberbole. Gates didn't create an industry. IBM did.
Poor IBM. How terrible that a massive Bohemeth that owned the entire industry that they created was taken by a kid who didn't finish college.
I never did work for Microsoft. Never applied either and I didn't care for the corporate culture. My niche is networking and frankly Microsoft has never been great at networking and my industry has way to many times had to adapt to their poor implementations.
If we talking face to face, I would do FAR FAR more complaining about Microsoft than I would bragging. But to deny they changed the world for the better? That's would be naive.
His story is great. He worked his tail off. So did Mark Cuban. Both worked hard, started large companies and employees tens of thousands. I hold no animosity toward successful people.I think they should pay thier fair share Some do. Some don't but Bill pays a lot of taxes and does a lot of good for humanity. His point, although you may feel he needs to pay more, is valid.

(112,171 posts)at all levels. Unfortunately, some of their education initiatives are considered to be failures. For example, they advocate that teacher pay should be reflective of student test scores.

I have also read that the Gates Foundation has tried to influence the curriculum taught at the schools that they made contributions.
Of course they try to advance learning in computer science, which also means that the schools accepting his money have an obligation to purchase Microsoft products.
While the Gates do show some benevolent aspects, some of their donations are used to influence policy positions or to increase business for Microsoft. So if you are okay with the donations having strings attached with them.

(24,324 posts)Somebody who makes a billion dollars in one year makes $500,000/hour. !!!
Of course he may not make a billion a year.. I have no idea...
Ok just checked in 2017 he earned about 4 billion..
Now figure a 40 hour work week.. that is 2 million/hour.. Not too shabby...
EDIT #2--
As of 2018 he was worth 91 billion.
How much does the fucker need for shit sake...???

He does a lot of worthy of a billionaire.
If every billionaire that gave billions to rebuild Notre Dame cared as much for those that worship in Notre Dame the world would be a better place.
