That should be self apparent to anyone in DU. Or hell, any American.

But to compare our diverse society with with our well established norms of behavior to the Brownshirts is not a good analogy.

Their was no Democratic tradition in Germany in the 1920’s. Force had been the entire determinant in their society and they had scant respect for democratic nations who had just defeated them in a war so brutal we can’t understand it.

So in Bavaria it was possible for a political movement to establish a private army of brutal veterans who had killed on a scale we can’t imagine and collectively blamed their loss in the war on the Jews.

But that is not at all analogous to our situation. Trump does not have a private army of disciplined, war veterans ready to march to his command. Even in my reddish community if a group of racist trump supporters decided to take up arms, the republican sheriff and his deputies would meet them with force. Not that it will ever happen. Most trump sticker emblazoned trucks here are driven by retirement age or close to it folks. Not at all like the real Brownshirts who were pretty much a private army.

My point was that comparing us to 1920’s Germany is not a good analogy.
