she had a lung disease that required her to be on oxygen all the time. We do not know at this time what went wrong. She just turned 14 in July.
It hurts so damn bad. When those babies come into my room, they become mine forever. It is heartbreaking to lose one. In 22 years, this is about the 20th I have lost. IT never gets easier

(31,997 posts)it isn't a tally I care to keep track of.
One time I lost two at once in a car wreck during lunch when they were not supposed to be in a car outside the school grounds. sigh

(31,997 posts)The last one was 5 years ago when that man/child took his life and the family couldn't bury him because they didn't have money. You and DU made that happen and I will always forever be grateful.
He was also buried with his blanket I taught them to make after you all helped me get a fund started.
YOU are all such blessings.

(22,120 posts)"One of my last year babies" and "In 22 years, this is about the 20th I have lost." At first it looked like you were taking about your 14 year old daughter, but by saying "losing your 20th" were you talking about pets? What's a "last year baby" mean?
Whether it's pets or kids, my deepest condolences to you.

This particular baby just turned 14 in JULY
she would sit by my desk daily from Sep to May and we had still talked. The last time was when she showed me her Halloween costume. (she was only going to take her younger brother)
She had a respitory problems and wore oxygen 24/7

(19,878 posts)and so glad that you care that much about your students.
When I was a kid, in a time when no one really paid attention to abused kids, my teachers were my lifeline. They were the people I could talk to, the ones who reminded me that there were kind people in the world.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
