Exclusive: Book Claims Senior Officials Believed Pence Would Support Use Of 25th Amendment

The anonymous author of “A Warning,” reportedly a current or former White House official, said talk of removing Trump escalated after Comey was fired.

The much-anticipated book “A Warning,” reportedly written by an unnamed senior White House official, claims that high-level White House aides were certain that Vice President Mike Pence would support the use of the 25th Amendment to have President Donald Trump removed from office because of mental incapacity.

According to the exposé, which is written by someone that The New York Times and the publisher of the book say is a current or former senior White House official, using the pen name “Anonymous,” highly placed White House officials did a back-of-the-envelope tally of which Cabinet members would be prepared to sign a letter invoking Section 4 of the 25th Amendment to the Constitution, which says that if the president is deemed unfit to discharge the duties of his office, the vice president would assume the role.

and push some of us in a new direction. Rod Rosenstein was the person we know about who was most interested in raising the 25th amendment, although so far he never mentioned Pence. He thought Jeff Sessions and John Kelly were sure bets. But from the reporting of other people, it's more likely that Tillerson and Mattis (EDIT: and Gary Cohn and Rob Porter) would have been pro 25th Amendment. Mattis only if others went first.

So John Kelly has been on my list of potential Anonymous suspects, but not Sessions. I never put Rosenstein on my list because I didn't know if he qualified as a "White House Official" or not.

Now I'm thinking of eliminating Kellyanne Conway (with George as ghost writer) as a "suspect."

Hmmm. Interesting.

List...they were selecting based on someone actually mentioning the 25th or someone who just walked around saying trump was nuts. May not matter I suppose.

To me, Anonymous would likely be someone who has a certain degree of rebellion in their nature. A risk taker. Hard to imagine a military guy being like that.

Not sure if I'd take KAC off list - just because she's such an opportunist. She would likely see into the future and know she will look like a piece of shit after this nightmare is over?

What struck me is that they all were so worried after the Comey firing. And, wonder if we had acted back then, what would have happened. It's like the first thing he got away with.

He's like General Fromm in Valkyrie.
