The Baby Trump balloon that has followed the president across the globe is heading to this weekend's football game between the University of Alabama and Louisiana State University.
Organizers raised more than $4,000 in about 12 hours on a GoFundMe page to bring the VIP (very important protestor) to an area near Bryant-Denny Stadium on the Alabama campus, which is hosting the game that President Trump is expected to attend.
Nic Gulas, who organized the effort, told The Hill the fundraiser had already brought in $700 more than the needed funds to transport and set up the Baby Trump balloon.
As of 11 a.m. the fundraiser had exceeded its goal by $1,045.

The fundraiser will remain open until 5 p.m. CST, and all additional funds will be donated to the Equal Justice Initiative, he said.
Gulas said there are no plans for any protest or event around the balloon's attendance. He said organizers are now working on the logistics of where to put the balloon with the big game happening.

(294 posts)I wonder if the goodyear blimp or any network cameras will be allowed to pan to it. I'm sure the orders have gone out; the threats made, and the sharpshooters readied to shoot it down.

Disappointed that there wont be an on-site protest, but I understand. Otherwise Id suggest using the additional funds to buy whistles.

In a separate statement, Jackson Fuentes, SGA Press Secretary, said "The SGA strongly affirms its belief in free speech and the rights of all students to express their opinions. Todays report erroneously assigned a political context to a message meant only to remind students about heightened security and the consequences of altercations or other behaviors unbecoming of a University of Alabama student, as defined in the Capstone Creed.
For whatever reason, it sounds like they've decided to indicate that it's quite OK to boo; they just don't want any fighting going on. Given there will likely be alcohol involved, that's not an unreasonable concern.

(7,428 posts)The average college student down here is socially and politically conservative, as compared to the rest of the nation. Add in the alcohol and heightened emotions of football games and fights wouldn't be surprising at all. I would also expect those who booed to be scapegoated as the instigators.

Fundraising efforts to bring a giant baby Trump balloon to Tuscaloosa this weekend have topped their goal.
The GoFundMe campaign by Trace Fayard and Nic Gulas has received $5,675 - $1,675 over its goal - in donations since it was created yesterday. The campaign has received donations from 286 people.
Organizers said the cost of bringing the baby Trump balloon to Tuscaloosa is $4,000. Any money over that amount will be donated to the Equal Justice Initiative.
