Former veterans commissioner Loree Sutton officially launches mayoral campaign (NYC)

Loree Sutton, a retired Army general and the former head of the city veterans affairs department, officially kicked off a campaign Thursday for mayor in 2021.
Sutton was the commissioner of Mayor Bill de Blasios Department of Veterans Affairs until she stepped down late last month, and is now throwing her hat in her ring to replace her ex-boss.
I am a roll-up-your-sleeves public servant who leads with heart, Sutton, a Democrat, said in a launch video released Thursday. I believe theres nothing wrong with our city that cant be fixed by whats right with our city.
Sutton is among the first candidates to officially declare in what is expected to be a crowded, and mostly male, 2021 mayoral field.
Sutton served in the military for more than 20 years, where she was an Army psychiatrist and rose to the rank of Brigadier General.
Two years out, there are now four announced candidates by my count. It's almost as if people wanted to get rid of Bill De Blasio.
