(18,690 posts)hold a pre-trial hearing specifically on this one matter: the relevance of these (republican) witnesses? John Roberts will be the presiding judge. The Dems call witnesses to discredit the conspiracy theories the republicans are pursuing (there are many, including HR McMaster). Most if not all these witnesses would almost certainly be ruled irrelevant and the Impeachment trial could proceed without this distraction.
EDIT: Some of these witnesses are relevant and likely to be called anyway, like Volker and the WB's source witnesses. But Ohr? Hunter Biden? Give me a break.

(8,492 posts)Most of the Republican requests for witnesses will be ignored by the commitee as irrelevant, as is their prerogative to do. They will of course badger the witnesses that are actually relevant to the investigation. Then we'll see whether the Chairman is able to control the hearings. Trump et al. has forfeited legal representation at the hearings by refusing to cooperate with the investigation and commanding witnesses not to appear before the Committee, as per the rules for the process laid out by the House...again as is their prerogative to do.

(28,836 posts)False conspiracy theory is still false, guys.
I will find it ironic if Trump goes down all because of his refusal to acknowledge the inaccuracy of a conspiracy theory everyone else knew was false.
