about everyone on the same side of the church.

So he pulled a Henry VII excuse to get rid of his first wife. Good thing for her that the church approved. Since he believes himself above the law, what might he have done if he lost his appeal?

https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2007/sep/06/obama-girl/giulianis-first-wife-was-his-second-cousin/
In 1968, Giuliani wed his second cousin, Regina Peruggi, who was the daughter of his father's first cousin. (Think of your son/daughter marrying your cousin's daughter/son.)

Giuliani at different points labeled the family connection as "second cousins once removed" and "third cousins," before he was corrected, according to news reports. In a 1993 memo for his mayoral campaign, a Giuliani strategist noted the "weirdness" factor of the marriage, according to a copy posted on the Smoking Gun Web site.

I happen to know most of my father's first cousins and my grandfather was the eldest son of 11 - large Irish family - so there are a lot of them, but I still know most of them, just went to a big family picnic this summer. Don't these people talk to each other?

How did the two families avoid each other while they were dating?
How did the two families avoid each other for the 14 years of their marriage?
How do they explain not being curious about the family of their spouse?

It's nod nod, wink wink BS from Rudy to get the Catholic Church to go along with dumping his wife.

Back in the day people jumped through all kinds of hoops to get an annulment from the Church to avoid a divorce!

I doubt Rudy sincerely cares that much about his church as this transaction demonstrates.

His concern was PR. He was already associate AG. He wanted and became the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York - a political appointment. He'd switched to the Republican party a month after Reagan won.

He didn't want a messy divorce with the Catholic Church dogging him politically.
He dumped his second wife via press conference as his term as NY Mayor wound down.

Didn't stop him from breaking Church rules after failing to win Republican nomination:

Giuliani breaks rules by having Communion at papal mass

Strangely, I do remember his second wife from back in the day. When I was away at school, Donna Hanover was the nightly news anchor for the local Utica, NY, station. My parents got me a small TV for my birthday and I used to watch her on the news and I thought she did a good job. Later on, I remember seeing her on WPIX in New York City. Why she ever married Giuliani is a mystery to me...

To minimize divorce damages with her after callously informing her via press conference, he claimed he hadn't been cheating on her during his affair with 3rd wife to be because prostate surgery had left him impotent. $6.8 mil settlement.

Now he's playing games with the 3rd wife to minimize divorce damages ... while spending more than $2,000 per month on cigars and $200,000/mo on God knows what. Appears that Russian oligarch money is pretty handy ...

Some jail time might save them both some money.
