What the hell is going on in some of these supposed schools!!!
https://abcnews.go.com/US/boy-allegedly-forced-urinate-front-classroom-made-wear/story?id=66888410
A lawsuit filed by the parents of an 8-year-old boy alleges that a teacher disallowed their son to use the bathroom and made him pee into a trashcan in front of his classmates before he urinated on himself, soaking his clothes in the process.
The incident happened last November when the boy was attending Manhattan Place Elementary School in South Los Angeles in the Los Angeles Unified School District when he initially approached his teacher to use the bathroom and was told that he was not allowed. He then allegedly approached the teacher a second time and was told to pee in the trashcan, according to ABC News Los Angeles station KABC.
Instead of just letting him go, the teacher told him to urinate in a trashcan that was in the classroom and in front of his classmates, said the familys attorney Toni Jaramilla in a press conference last week.
The suit says that he urinated on himself during that process and soaked his clothes and, later that day, went to his after-school enrichment program where the incident was made worse by another employee.
He went to another teacher to try to receive help and she proceeded to place a garbage bag on him to make an example out of him of what you should not do at school, instead of calling us and saying can you please bring him a change of clothes, said the boys mother Sonia Mongol at the press conference.

(58,785 posts)unclear when they finally found out, but other students started harassing the boy, and at one point he was transferred to apparently remove him from what had become hostile environment.
Lots of questions to be answered by a too-long-delayed investigation, but it's now on the LAUSD's front burner. I'm guessing those teachers need to be training for another, very different line of work. Maybe computer repair.

(62,444 posts)The school treated this as an incident of child abuse and called law enforcement.
The reason this is in the news now is that the statute of limitations is about to expire, and since the district had not come up with an acceptable figure, the suit was filed and a news conference held.
Thats why you see things like this a year after the fact.
The likelihood of any of the teachers working there still is pretty low. However the school cant give out personnel or student information.

A spokesperson for the district said officials alerted law enforcement after the allegation was made and they are cooperating with the investigation. LAUSD is also conducting an administration, the spokesperson said in a statement.

(16,690 posts)I was the goat in my class. Even though I got a's and b's in the academics, she marked my all of the citizenship columns unsatisfactory for the entire year. She humiliated me in front of the other kids. By the time I left her class, I had a weight problem which has never resolved. Some teachers are horrible people.
I hope the parents get counseling for their son. It is hard to carry that kind of abuse from a trust figure.

(28,702 posts)and my son was the goat. the following year another mother wrote a letter about the teacher to the local paper. it took that long for me to realize what had gone on. I am guilty to this day for not realizing that the teacher had a real problem, and my son was a victim and not a bad boy.

(30,540 posts)when my parents found out the teacher was bullying me they put me into a private school. My father had to work overtime to be able to pay my tuition but changing schools made all the difference in the world and saved me psychological problems.

(63,221 posts)Don't they have any human compassion at all? Why humiliate a small child like this in front of his peers? It's sadistic and inhumane. Those teachers should be fired.

(9,874 posts)Add to that the lack of qualifications of many teachers, and we have incidents like this. We have many, many dedicated, wonderful teachers, and I feel for their stress and the challenges they face every day to teach children in schools and a society that no longer values them. And why is that? In their zeal to eliminate every union in the country so that workers would have to take whatever corporations decided to give them, Republicans deliberately undermined teachers by going after their unions, which mostly endorsed Democratic candidates. They characterized teachers as lazy people who had summers off at taxpayers expense. They demonized teachers and schools by evaluating them according to test results, which has led to teaching to the test and rote learning of information just long enough to pass a test.
I would argue that qualified teachers are more important to a free and functioning society than the hordes of lawyers like the ones in Congress defending Donald Trump, but their pay is far, far less. We need to re-professionalize the teaching profession and pay teachers the wages they deserve.

(9,903 posts)... to humiliate a kid, and lock him out of the classroom... it's against the law, too. We have had this come up during "lock down" drills and there are ways to handle this situation. These teachers, and substitute teacher, need not only to be fired but also to be prosecuted.

(3,489 posts)and there were six nuns and 2 regular teachers. Our nuns were nutty enough but not mean-spirited. However, our 5th grade teacher was the ugliest and meanest woman I have ever met. Really ugly and mean, I mean like Wicked Witch of the West ugly and mean. Of course, I was the one of the ones she picked on even though I made good grades. For whatever reason, she just didn't like me, possibly because she also either taught or tutored two of my much older brothers.
One day, I asked the same question twice because I didn't understand the information and she actually walked to my desk, picked up my hard-back science book, and hit me on the head with it. I sat there stunned, embarrassed, and hurting. She just seemed to revel in humiliating kids and I remember feeling miserable about going to school with her as my teacher. Back then, even if you told your parents about it, nothing was ever done. What teachers said or did went and there was no discussion about it.

(67,030 posts)in my mind is my first school dance at night in 7th grade. I was nervous about going/shy. So, I went. Walked in the lobby over to the gym and some fat ass teacher I never liked yells at the top of her lungs. What did your mother do, send you here for us to babysit you? I was humiliated and really pissed. I just ignored her and walked on.

If it had been a girl, you'd also have to consider the possibility of UTI. (Boys can get them too, but they are less likely to have a UTI.)
