NY-2 Rep. Peter King will not seek re-election in 2020.

Rep. Peter King, the longtime Republican congressman from Seaford and an ally of President Donald Trump, announced Monday he is retiring from the U.S. House of Representatives and will not seek reelection next year.

King, who's held the office for 14 terms, in a text message Monday morning to Newsday, said he "will of course finish out my term."

In a telephone interview later in the morning, King, 75, said his chief of staff arranged a call with President Donald Trump to deliver the news — and the conversation was late Sunday morning, for about 10 minutes.

"I told him I'd support him any way he wants," King said, but added: "I won't be there for his next term."
