according to right-wingers, anyway. normal people think diversity is a good thing, or at least they accept the concept.

it's not just that they disagree with it, they treat it like the worst of swear words.

when we visited my brother-in-law, he *banned* us from uttering the word in his house, lest his 8 year-old son hear the word. and it's not just him, we've heard similar stories from others, i'm sure foxnews and rush are telling him that.

i get that they don't like the concept, but treating it like it's a swear word is really bizarre.

I once drove 3.5 hours once to go to my BIL's daughter's wedding reception and he started shaking his finger, right in my face, about "YOUR PRESIDENT" (Obama) 3 minutes after I took my coat off. I shit you not, the only thing I had said to him at all at that point was light, small talk about the weather. Nota single breath climate change mind you, just light, ordinary talk about some heavy rain that had fallen recently.

I didn't even speak. I just picked up my coat, looked at my SIL and thanked her for inviting us and left. Drove the 3.5 hours back home, and I never did that shit again.

I would throw it into everything like mentioning the diversity of the dishes served on the table, the diversity of the plants in the garden, the diversity of the contents of the fridge, the diversity of items in the closets and drawers, the diversity of the shows on TV, etc. to take away any unfortunate stigma they try to attach to it and to show that it is a word that means variety--not so scary.
