Our country is easily divided.

Unfortunately, we have many cultural divides and a history that makes it difficult to unite this country.

It makes it almost impossible when the Commander in Chief uses division as a political weapon. Divide the nation between "them" and "us".

Knowingly or not, he is sabotaging our government to outside forces.

Is there anything that can unite the country at this time?

2. Our 'many cultural divides and history' have been positive attributes

for much of our history, an unusual situation among nations, but now with a sociopath as president, those attributes are no longer treated as positives.

I'm not optimistic for our future, except when I see my grandkids open to 'diversity,' actually unaware of 'differences.'

5. One side has to get over the idea that the only true Americans are straight, white Christians & that

this country is for them & only them. I don't see that happening. They are puffed up on white superiority - that it's whites that made this country & world great. Yeah, right. We're standing on an ecological brink due to the policies of (mostly) rich, white men. Yet they still think they deserve to be in charge. JFC.

7. I just got around to watching Michael Moore's "Where to Invade Next"

Though it may have a simplistic view at how to solve our problems, it struck me that wherever he went, the people were happy because they had benefits like 8 weeks of paid vacation in Italy. Whether he was in Italy, France, Germany, Finland, Norway,Slovenia or Tunisia people basically gave him the same attitude about why they were happy. Their taxes gave them paid time with their family and friends or guaranteed health care or college education. They put a priority on life and their kids not money. Time to play is important for kids. They cared about their community. Schools were equal not for profit. People are paid enough to be middle class without having to have two jobs.

In Germany they didn't cover up their history and they teach their kids so they don't have to repeat their mistakes.
In Norway they treat their prisoners humanly with a goal toward rehabilitation.
In Iceland they prosecuted the bankers who screwed over the country instead of just bailing them out like in this country.
In Tunisia they demonstrated for women's rights and got them. The Islamic government stood down when they saw the direction of the will of the people.

In each setting the people Moore talked to said all these ideas came from America. The difference is people here are separated by propaganda that tells them that unions are bad and people are helpless to change anything because their representatives will not respond to their needs. They vote them back into office time after time anyway. There will be no consequences for those in high places who commit crimes or flagrant abuse. And that's just the way it is. Get use to it.

People are ignorant of their power to get what they want and need. We cannot get these things because we are divided.
