I met my first (AFAIK) Qanon today, and I realized just how grossly inadequate the term "idiot racist fuckhead" is to describe the catastrophically disastrous lunatics.
They are so far beyond simple idiocy, or racism, or fuckheadness that I confess I simply wouldn't have believed it if you'd described one of them to me.
Their minds are lost. They are full-blown cultists.
I once spent two hours in a one-on-one meeting with a fairly high-ranking Scientologist, and by comparison he seemed entirely sane and rational and full of good ideas.
The unhinged and frothing cultist I met this morning so exceeds my wildest concept of a Trump zealot that I honestly thought he was pranking me.
If only.
I knew that they were dangerous, but they're much, much worse than I'd imagined.
Holy shit what a seething cauldron of hideous mental dysfunction.
And to all you idiot racist fuckheads lurking here with the intent of reposting this on your little circle jerk conservative forum, every last one of you can go fuck yourselves, individually and collectively.

We must never underestimate the power of hate. Nazi Germany was just one such example of how hate must be resisted.

(10,495 posts)The RW media has created this cult since Reagan. Trump's base cannot be swayed by facts or logic as they have been trained not to believe anything that doesn't align perfectly with their beliefs.
Until we can come up with a way to require some truth in the news, Americans cannot come together again.
Before I get hit with some Free Speech argument it is possible for the government to restrict speech if there is a compelling governmental interest, such as making it illegal to shout "fire" in a crowded theater if there is no fire. Fox News won an appeal out of Florida where it is ok for them to lie because Fox News was found to not be news... it is entertainment. Things like this need to be addressed legislatively once we can take the Senate and the WH.

(42,641 posts)It is impossible to debate someone when there is no agreement on what a fact is.
One cannot actually debate a Holocaust denier.
One cannot debate a climate change denier.
One cannot debate someone who claims that "alternative facts" exist.

(5,453 posts)And I share your disbelief. However, we are all the same species, Homo Sapiens. There is just a lot of variability within the species. That being said, I believe we are entirely UNEVOLVED to the point of self destruction. We imagine ourselves as masters of the universe, when we can plainly see there are those among us who are, for lack of a better term, IMBECILES.
And those imbeciles have as their leader the biggest imbecile of them all. I have little hope for the survival of mankind, much less the survival of our democracy.

(9,110 posts)5. Why do people believe this nonsense?
To answer that question, let us turn to "The Paranoid Style in American Politics," the classic American political essay by historian Richard Hofstadter. Originally published in Harper's Magazine in 1964, Hofstadter dissected what causes people to subscribe to conspiracy theories. His argument was based not on a psychological diagnosis but rather on a particular style that tends to appeal to people regardless of whether it has any objective merit:
The paranoid spokesman sees the fate of conspiracy in apocalyptic termshe traffics in the birth and death of whole worlds, whole political orders, whole systems of human values. He is always manning the barricades of civilization. He constantly lives at a turning point. Like religious millennialists he expresses the anxiety of those who are living through the last days and he is sometimes disposed to set a date fort the apocalypse...
As a member of the avant-garde who is capable of perceiving the conspiracy before it is fully obvious to an as yet unaroused public, the paranoid is a militant leader. He does not see social conflict as something to be mediated and compromised, in the manner of the working politician. Since what is at stake is always a conflict between absolute good and absolute evil, what is necessary is not compromise but the will to fight things out to a finish. Since the enemy is thought of as being totally evil and totally unappeasable, he must be totally eliminatedif not from the world, at least from the theatre of operations to which the paranoid directs his attention.

If they choose to rant and rave w/o giving me the benefit of my rights, I simply turn around and walk away. Don't give them a platform or soapbox, they don't deserve it since apparently they don't feel like anyone deserves it.
I have only met a couple of such jarheads like the above, but I'm serious in defending our sacred rights too. Strongly too. And the 'strongly' comes about solely because of their ridiculous attempt to shout over, yell over any beliefs (non rump) expressed. To be fair, most people are nice enough to listen calmly, but there are a few 'dingbats' that don't and are utterly hostile to any non rump ideas or thoughts.

(21,428 posts)when it happened to me. It started when a woman LOUDLY intruded on a quiet, private conversation I was having with another passenger.
The intruder ranted nonstop until I cut her off for her rudeness. She switched to victim mode then and accused me of cursing at her (I hadn't) and said I was not very peaceful toward her if I was one of those liberals who always talk about peace.
So I agreed with her. I said peace is a virtue. I held up my fingers in a peace sign. Other people caught on and also made peace signs. When she tried to respond, I said "Peace, sister." When she brought up the need to fight the devil, people laughed. I thought that would rile her even more but she got quiet then. Not sure why. Maybe she thought we were all demons serving the devil and was too busy praying for protection against us to continue her rants.
Or maybe she just realized that she had forgot her meds that day.

Nikki Whatshername is in the news today also saying how the #IPOTUS is a paradigm of honesty.
On a local note, a former client of mine called recently and shared with me his belief that the economy will tank if his orange idol isn't reelected.
We have been saying that the country is screwed for some time now, so what else should we expect? It is screwed, we're screwed, and there's no happy ending in sight. Even if we do prevail in November, these idiots are not going away.

(63,200 posts)The guy this morning repeatedly referred to himself (and others of like mind) as "white hats," all the while spelling out the nefarious schemes of the deep state.
He brought up the Rothschilds & the Bilderburgs, of course, just when I didn't think it was possible for my eyes to glaze over any thicker.
He actually and literally believes that Epstein had secret underwater tunnels to his island wherein Epstein, Clinton, and others (though not Trump of course) kill, dismember, and eat children as part of some dark ritual.

(5,155 posts)There are so many basic, fundamental "principles" of the Republican/conservative doctrine that deny reality and facts, the logical product of it all can not reasonably make sense.
The entire Republican "philosophy" is based upon a series of lies, very much like the the same lies which slavery-approving Southerners must have steeped themselves in in order to make sense of their world.
So to see samples of this pop up now and then makes no surprise. I'm happy it's becoming clear to others.
I should say that someone who truly enlightened me on this general observation was listening to Mike Malloy, who brings out the FIRE on his show.

(3,321 posts)to me anyway, is that they have been here (in this current iteration of civilization) all along. The rift has been here, but I did not notice. I need to pay closer attention.
It all comes down to God. With all of them.
I have a cousin who is all in on Q-Anon. And the deep state. And Obama stuff will get blown wide open and he will be hanged for treason. My cousin has been waiting for this (and 45) since 1988. Jesus is going to come down and take him to heaven in rapture. He believes Hillary is part of the child porn ring and pizzagate is a real thing.
All of my "conservative" friends believe 45 was chosen by God. They are truly cultists now. No reasoning with any of them.
The Republican party is now dead. There are no moderates anymore. They are now Trumplicans. And it is truly frightening!!!!

There was no other moment in that coal-minin' town more sickening to me than the day several of the retired miners were sitting on a porch engaged in asinine conversation somehow regarding our group of kids walking to the bus stop from school, when one of the most repulsive, toothless, unfiltered cig-rette puffing idiots proffered his opinion: "All that book-larnin don't do you no good"- to a chorus of raucous laughter.
