House GOP Memo Delineates Impeachment Defenses in Upcoming Open Hearings

https://newsnotpolitics.com/2019/11/12/house-gop-memo-previews-impeachment-defenses/

In an 18-page memo circulated among GOP staff members, the Republicans outlined their defense of President Donald J. Trump in the upcoming impeachment hearings.

According to the memo, Republicans intend to focus on four pieces of evidence that they claim are fatal to Democrats’ impeachment case against the President.

Democrats content that the GOP talking points are insufficient to combat the counterarguments that the Democrats have been levying for weeks.

Open hearings in the impeachment inquiry are slated to begin on Wednesday with the testimony of Bill Taylor and George Kent.

NNP Quote: “”As Chairman Schiff now moves his inquiry from his basement bunker to public hearings, this memorandum updates Republican Members about the key points of evidence learned to date in the Democrats’ ‘impeachment inquiry.’ The body of evidence to date does not support the Democrat allegation that President Trump pressured Ukraine to conduct investigations into the President’s political rivals for his political benefit in the 2020 election.” – Republican Impeachment Memo

NNP Background: In the lead-up to open impeachment hearings, Republicans have been focusing their attacks on the process – decrying the closed-door deposition sessions as unfair and secretive.

Now that Democrats have scheduled testimony in open session, Republicans are scrambling to mount a credible defense against the substance of the impeachment claims – that Trump proposed an illegal quid pro quo in order to collect damaging information against a political opponent, presidential candidate Joe Biden.

To get both perspectives on these events, we analyzed an article from a left-leaning media source and an article from a right-leaning media source below!
