against the possibility of a President Pelosi?
If Pence is compromised along with Trump, would removing Pence as VP and installing Haley before a Senate trial allow Republicans to vote to remove Trump while protecting his base?
Could that explain her recent and bizarre defense of Trump?

(52,208 posts)even if both donnie and pence are removed, republicans (whose cooperation we need) would never agree to remove them both at the same time. they would remove one, the other would nominate a new (republican) vice-president, the senate would confirm them, then the other would be removed, making the new republican the new president.
same way ford became president.
republicans don't need to defend anyone to do this, they just have to refuse to hand over the white house to a democrat voluntarily.
the only way we're getting a president pelosi is if both donnie and pence die at the same time or nearly so, or if one of them is removed and the other one dies before a replacement if confirmed.
very, very unlikely.
no, they're defending donnie because republicans think their misplaced loyalty the their party and its head is the highest virtue and far outweighs any allegiance to the law or the constitution or the people of america.

(52,208 posts)Point is, republicans maaaaay get rid of one of donnie/pence, but they'll never get rid of the second one unless and until a new Republican veep is confirmed.
And yes, a deadlock seems likely.

(31,261 posts)My guess is we would see a "unity" government, Pelosi and the Senate Pro Tempre (who is a republican).

(1,682 posts)Neither will let the other choose replacements. So if Trump is removed, leaving Pence as President, and given that Pence is implicated and facing impeachment, how could they agree on a person who would be president if Pence were to go?
First, the GOP Senate would not let Pence be removed in this circumstance, obviating any chance of Pelosi becoming president. Second, it would be impossible for the House and Senate to agree on a new VP/president. That would result in the deadlock to which I was referring. As a consequence of all of this, Pence would most likely remain as a caretaker president until the soon-to-be new president would eventually take over.

(115,683 posts)If Mike Pants were also impeached his replacement would have to be confirmed, but Fat Nixon can't fire him. All he can do is put someone else on the 2020 ticket but that obviously would not require congressional approval.

(6,008 posts)And not having him on the ticket would present an interesting risk. If trump declines to keep him on the ticket, how willing do you think pence would be to pardon the MF'er if things go as south for him as we all hope?
