Italian council is flooded immediately after rejecting measures on climate change

Veneto regional council, which is located on Venice's Grand Canal, was flooded for the first time in its history on Tuesday night -- just after it rejected measures to combat climate change.

The historic Italian city has been brought to its knees this week by the worst flooding there in more than 50 years.
And the council chamber in Ferro Fini Palace started to take in water around 10 p.m. local time, as councilors were debating the 2020 regional budget, Democratic Party councilor Andrea Zanoni said in a long Facebook post.

It is an amazing place, but I fear all those architectural treasures may soon be lost to us forever. I am only glad I had the opportunity to visit.

will come around like my small Texas town has after getting 2 thousand year floods 2 years apart! If there were any climate change deniers here after Harvey, Imelda set them straight.

Oh yea, Trump is not helping us either even though this area was heavy with his base. While they fight with FEMA for aid I hope they realize it’s their boy and their Party preventing it!

Some even feature canals, in imitation of Venice. After that, many coastal cities will suffer flooding far more often and with worse consequences. New Orleans will follow suit in short order.

Check your city and what will happen to it if sea levels continue to rise. Maybe it's time to move to higher ground while you still can without abandoning the place you live as a total loss.

Many areas of South Florida were taken from the swamps of the Everglades by digging big canals to drain water and make land dry enough to build on or to farm. The big problem is really the salt water incursion which will affect drinking and irrigation water quality.

Having just visited England, many parts of the southern parts of that country that were bogs fens have canals all over with pumps to keep the land dry. In earlier days, there were wind powered pumps - now they are diesel or electric powered. It is very similar to what is in the Netherlands.
