I just had a thought. There's talk about Senate gop wanting to drag out the trial to mess with

the Democratic primaries, but that makes no sense because that leaves Biden free to campaign at will and Biden seems to be who that thing most fears. It makes more sense to me that the real reason might be to drag it out enough so republican Senators aren't primaried by their rabid base. Let's face it--if they vote to acquit, there are a few gop Senators vulnerable, but there are many more who know this is wrong but if they vote to convict they'll be primaried. Maybe I'm giving the Senate too much credit.

If the senators can't fly home to their districts why can't they use technology? For example, video in2herbs Nov 2019 #2

Here in AZ two challengers are circling Martha McSally, including one who questions her loyalty to tRump even though she's voted with him approximately 95% of the time. They smell blood in the water with Mark Kelly beating her in fundraising and early polling.

Maybe the dragging out would help people like her, but I'm not sure. McSally is very dependent upon a Trump endorsement, or at least her supporters believe she is.

EDIT: BTW, the first part of your analysis is spot on. They will be giving Biden an open range to campaign and he at this point is the major threat. It might help Mayor Pete gain traction too.

live stream from their office or residence in DC to their district. There can still be the back and forth with questions, and if the screen is large everyone in the audience can see their senator. IMO campaigning this way by using technology will become a thing in the near future.
