second worse in a thousand. Venice has flood 5' above normal and 3 times in a week. Florence and Pisa are also experiencing terrible floods. In 1966 the Arno in Florence flooded the city and hundreds of volunteers worked to save ancient art and other historical documents.

(23,091 posts)4. I'm so sorry to see this happen to such an important, historic city. But they knew it was coming.
For centuries they have battled the waters. Just like many grand cities (London, Amsterdam).
There is no easy answer when the sea levels rise a meter or more and the weather events become more extreme.
What is making the tides so high this year? I doubt we can blame them on sea-level rise alone.
