(23,337 posts)to impugn the reputation of Lt Col Vindman by hammering on the offers to join the Ukrainian government. Disgusting.

(23,337 posts)but the point, I believe, was to just put it out there for public consumption Meaning Fox news. You can count on that being headlines on their cockamamie channel today.
BumRushDaShow
(129,535 posts)And it sounded idiotic.
That may play to the Faux Snooze conspiracy-theory crowd but not to the American public.
MontanaMama
(23,337 posts)Im curious, however, about the offer itself. What in the world could Ukrainian leader ship be trying to accomplish by luring Lt Colonel Lindemann away from the US? It sounds extremely shady.
BumRushDaShow
(129,535 posts)He has military experience, speaks the languages fluently, and was born in Ukraine (when it was part of the U.S.S.R.) although he and his brother were toddlers when their family left to come to the U.S., so he really has no association outside of his family and any postings there.
But as a note - whether it is a foreign country or a domestic company - government employees often get solicitations to come work for other entities (anyone who does "field work" gets these offers pretty frequently). The federal government has a process to report such offers and he did so!
MontanaMama
(23,337 posts)pointed out. The tin foil hat voice in my head wonders if he werent being set up. Some of the The folks around Col Vindman have turned out to be sketchy.

(25,983 posts)Pointing out how horrific it is to smear active duty military, decorated active duty military. Expressing shock that Repubs cannot find the bottom of the barrel when going to this line of questioning, that his family has been offered safe haven on a military base because Lt Col Vindman is perhaps in danger from having testified, and how shameful that is.
Calling him the best of the best, and going on and on about his integrity - as we all should.

(53,342 posts)the #TraitorGOP isn't even trying to hide the fact they don't have any defense. All they want is to:
name the whistleblower (akin to publicly naming a person who pulled a fire alarm when seeing a burning building)
continue to push many-times-over debunked conspiracy theories (debunked by EVERY witness)
ramble on meaninglessly over unrelated matters (to bore viewers to get them to tune out?)
crickets
(25,983 posts)The message is silly enough, but to use what looks like a student effort to blast it out there is just lame.
Pacifist Patriot
(24,654 posts)It's more like publicly naming someone who called the police to report they had been told a drug cartel was operating out of a house across the street, here are the names of some people who have been in and out of the house you might want to talk to, and from their experience living in the neighborhood for many years, the behavior over there does look awfully suspicious. Thereby triggering an investigation.
In other words, there is no reason whatsoever to reveal the identity of the whistleblower even if it wasn't against the law to do so. But the identity becoming known could put that person at risk of retaliation.

(33,447 posts)In the discussion in the break, one of the ABC talkers mentioned Trump saying he might testify but, "no one's really taking that seriously".
This is where we are: No one takes the word of the president seriously. Except our military, of course; they took an oath to do so.

(3,131 posts)Lawyers identify the legal terms. These witnesses are too smart to loosely use legal terms.
Thats the job for non-lawyers like me on DU.
In any case these hearings are to expose the facts. The judicial committee will lay out the charges.
I wonder if Nadler will limit those hearings to deciding the articles of impeachment and prevent attempts to drag in new evidence.
ancianita
(36,137 posts)they'll argue about the evidence the Intel Dems have put together through eyewitness testimony.
It's been too compelling.
Midnightwalk
(3,131 posts)The republicans will try to continue bringing up the whistleblower and the bidens but the democratic members (nadler) will tell them no new evidence allowed.
As they should. Bringing up unrelated items like what the bidens did have no bearing on what trump did.
Schiff is explaining right now that fact witnesses dont give opinions on what bribery means
Mersky
