In all seriousness, is it not absolutely clear and beyond any rational doubt that the United

States of America is now being ruled---not governed---by a man who is dangerously mentally ill?

Against this frightening backdrop, various players are now strutting, slinking or walking with deliberation across the familiar stage of "the way things have always been done". But, the one role absolutely necessary to give meaning to the play remains unfilled: POWER---sometimes raw and ugly, but essential---is missing.

The maniac in the White House threatens and slanders his critics on a daily basis---but, no one has the power to stop him.

His minions smirk "fuck you"s at those who impotently subpoena them---and, apparently, no one has the power to wipe those smirks off their arrogant faces.

Insiders have been given the green light to log our legacy forests, mine our national parks and drill for oil off our beaches---and, we are powerless to stop them.

It is now legally permissible to discriminate against US citizens based on who they love, where their family originated and the name they use for God---and, we are powerless to do more than cluck our disapproval.

POWER. I have no doubt that we possess the power to bring our play to a satisfactory conclusion, but we have yet to marshall it effectively against the aberrant and chaotic assaults by the gibbering idiots now in the driver's seat. The "tried and true" has little impact on the asymetric and irrational actors confronting us.

Honor, Decency, Courage, and, perhaps most importantly, Righteous Indignation will provide all the power needed IF we will simply take a deep breath and BELIEVE---in our democracy, in the majority of our fellow citizens, in ourselves.
