Is WhatsApp legal to use for our elected officials?

I remember when Butter Emails was such a scandal because some people viewed it as a way to hide Clinton’s communications as SoS from the public record, but here you have an App specifically designed to keep zero records of any communications. That can’t be legal for our elected/appointed officials to be using a system that hides their conversations from the public record.

Unless it’s security related, the people have the right to know what our government is doing on their behalf. WhatsAp is not OK in that pursuit.

Probably similar to using a private email server, not technically illegal, but clearly against government guidelines and policies.

I work for a defense contractor and one of our contracts does require TS clearance. (top secret)

We would be crucified by our USAF security liaison if he found out we used that to communicate about any aspect of the contract.
