Because Mr. Sondland was a

cutout for Trump's purpose which, by Trump's own
statement that "he" Trump "hardly knows the guy."
A guy that has known Trump for 10 years and has direct
access to his private unsecured cell number and can call
whenever and talk jokingly about Trump's ass.

Sondland is just a tool, like all the other discarded tools
in Heir Trump's lifetime.
