(54,370 posts)The popular will of the country in 2016, no matter what the manipulation of a few thousand votes in the rust belt ended up doing to pervert that will, was that Hillary Clinton should be our president. Sure, Republicans can sneer "sore losers, get over it."
But the fact remains that they are scared shitless of reforming our elections to the point where the popular will truly determines the person in the White House and the makeup of our Congress. If THAT should ever happen, they will REALLY find out what "minority" means.

(6,448 posts)Today, Gov Evers' approval rating is below 50%, while the number of people for impeaching Trump is less than 40%. We have militias and hate groups like never before and a saturation of opioids and crystal meth across the state.
I've lost hope.

(31,261 posts)About 40% of voters sat out the 2016 general or wrote in "Bernie". The special elections, the elections of 2017, 2018 and 2019 clearly showed that when more people vote, our candidates prevail most of the time, that is why republicans try for low turnout elections.
People can talk about "popular will" until they are blue in the face. If enough of us don't care to vote in every election, regardless of the level, pukes win and either gain control or stay in control.
BTW, they claim to be pro-business, but republicans hate booming local economies, because when that happens and is sustained, they get voted out of office.

(31,261 posts)Your point is why our policy prescriptions should not make moderates nervous about voting for us. Once our candidates are in office, then they can discuss bolder policies and pull moderates along. But if we don't win, we get nothing.
